Stilling:
Associate Professor of Architectural Design
Deadline 19.08.2018
About the position:
The Institute of Architecture at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design calls for applications for a four year 50% position as Associate Professor with a focus on typology and spatial form in architectural design. The position will be placed in the Space & Technique group and be tasked with teaching design studios. The position is connected to the strategic direction of architectural design within the group.
The Space & Technique group sees architecture as a constantly-changing, millennia-old discipline that works with the most basic and primitive of concerns while maintaining a sharply contemporary sense of the possibilities inherent in its own future. While its primary goal is building things, like houses or cities, it should be designed by responding to human experience and challenging critical thought. In this way, the practice of architecture is much more than a set of skills or core of competency; it needs to integrate multiple (changing and often contradictory) concerns within a realistic whole that includes a plan for its realization. An important feature of our teaching is an engagement with the contemporary international discourse in architecture and collaborations with practices and schools across the world.
Applicants should possess:
- a rigorous approach to architectural design
- a strong vision of the design process and its methods of representation and construction
- an awareness of current architectural thinking at an international level
- an explicit pedagogy and experience teaching design studios
Responsibilities:
We are looking for a highly motivated and early career candidate to:
- Develop design studios within the context of the Space & technique group
- Organize case study research within the studio
- Collaborate within the group on research projects
- Lecture on concepts of space and technique within the domain of building
Qualifications:
The candidate must possess:
- A master degree in architecture
- A portfolio of architectural design of exceptional quality
- Experience teaching design studios
- Excellent written and spoken English
Evaluation Criteria:
The applications will be evaluated against the following criteria:
- Quality and clarity of the portfolio work
- Teaching experience and the results thereof
- Contemporaneity of the architectural approach
We offer:
- An annual salary of NOK 576 100 – 713 600 depending on qualifications.
- A professionally stimulating working environment
- Membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (a monthly deduction of 2% of gross salary will be made as a contribution to the fund)
