Knowledge of Norwegian legislation for nature management is an advantage but not a requirement.

For appointment as professor, the candidate should possess a good record of accomplishment of internationally recognized research within terrestrial ecology and/or nature management. Experience from grant procurement from national and international funding agencies is a requirement. For the assessment of candidates for full professorship, the selection committee will make use of the qualification descriptions for professor as they appear in the note Coordination of the procedures for promotion to full professor at the science faculties of universities in Norway, adopted by the National Faculty Meeting of Sciences and National Council for Technological Education, August 2016

Experience from national/international grant procurement is beneficial. If the candidate has a foreign degree, it has to be approved as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree.

The successful candidate must be fluent in English and preferably also in Norwegian, Danish or Swedish. If the candidate does not speak Norwegian at the time of appointment, he/she is obliged to take actions to master Norwegian/Danish/Swedish within three years. The candidate should have pedagogical skills and relevant teaching experience. Applicants that cannot document basic formal pedagogical training must complete this within the first two years of employment. Nord University offers such training.

The faculty operates in close contact with financing bodies, researchers from other fields and departmental managers, which means that the successful candidate will be expected to work in close cooperation with such organisations. The candidate should also possess good communication and team building skills.
