About the position

Nord University Business School, Norway, invites applications for a position as professor or associate professor of business economics, with a specialization in applied econometrics or finance.

The appointees will have responsibility for research, teaching and supervision of candidates at the bachelor, master and PhD levels. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to academic research as well as the development of study programmes and teaching methods. The position is placed within the section for economic analysis and accounting, which covers the following areas: accounting, auditing, budgeting, management control, finance and investment, economics and research methods.

The department needs to strengthen its capacity in applied econometrics and finance. The position will be associated with research and teaching in the areas of finance, econometrics, and applied statistics. Additional experience in other relevant research areas will be an advantage.

The position is located in Bodø. Nord University faculties are distributed over several campuses. The position may involve tasks at Nord University’s other campuses.

Qualification requirements

The basis for appointment to the position of professor or associate professor is a level of academic achievement in accordance with international and national standards within the field, including:

  • A doctoral degree or close to completion of a doctoral degree study or equivalent accreditation or standing within finance, econometrics, statistics or similar areas.
  • Documented contribution to academic teaching and research within the field applied and computational econometrics and statistics, with a focus on one or more of the following topics: time series, multivariate analysis (econometric or statistic), or panel data.
  • The candidate should ideally have experience with econometric and/or statistical software for the purpose of both teaching and research.
  • Teaching experience and pedagogical experience/training. A Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (Norwegian: Universitetpedagogisk utdanning) or equivalent is required for the position. Applicants who cannot document basic competence in teaching, must acquire this competence within a two-year period. Nord University offers a course in university teaching which covers this requirement.
  • Good oral and written presentation skills in English and Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language). Candidates who do not speak Norwegian at the time of application should take steps to master Norwegian or a Scandinavian language within three years.
  • Commitment to creating a good academic environment.

Applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. In the assessment of academic qualifications, the committee will place emphasis on whether the applicant’s experience and academic research complement the academic milieu at Nord University Business School. Demonstrated record of obtaining external research funding and organizational/administrative skills and experience will be beneficial during the assessment. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed, and may be asked to give a public lecture. The appointees will be expected to maintain a working presence on campus.

Qualified applicants will be ranked according to the following criteria:

  • Research and development relevant to the position.
  • Publications from the last five years will be given special emphasis.
  • Experience with international research networks and externally funded projects.
  • Experience in teaching and supervision at Bachelor and Master levels from higher education institutions.
  • Pedagogical qualifications.
  • Relevant teaching experience.
  • Good skills in communicating and collaborating with students and colleagues.
  • Personal qualities which can contribute positively to the academic environment.

The position is compensated according to Norwegian government regulations, code 1013 professor or code 1011 for associate professor. Salary by agreement.
