About the position

A PhD fellowship is available at the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture, Nord University (Bodø, Norway) within the project: “Next Generation Feed Ingredients”. The project aims to investigate novel sources of ingredients in salmon feeds.

The position is for 3 years and will be available from 1st March 2019.

Aquaculture and particularly farming of Atlantic salmon is important for the Norwegian biobased economy. As the aquaculture sector and the intensification of production grow, the demand for high quality feed is increasing. Novel feed ingredients are needed for sustainable development of aquaculture. The PhD project will investigate use of novel ingredients in diets for Atlantic salmon.

Qualification requirements

We are looking for motivated applicants with a strong academic record and the ability to collaborate with other members of an international multidisciplinary team.

The grades at the qualifying MSc examination need to be C or better (ECTS scale from A-E) to be admitted to the program.

At the time of appointment, the candidate must have an MSc degree (or equivalent) in a field relevant to the project – preferably in fish nutrition, and/or fish health.

Only candidates who have hands-on experience with fish experiments, preferable feeding experiments with fish will be considered for the position. It is also advantageous to have experience in molecular biology techniques and / or fish histology.

Proficiency in oral and written English is essential and must be documented either by the Norwegian Higher Education Entrance Qualification or internationally recognised certificates, such as TOEFL, IELTS, APIEL or similar. Skills in Scandinavian language is an advantage for the position.

The selected candidate will join the PhD programme in Aquatic Biosciences at Nord University and is expected to complete a doctoratewithin the three-year project period. The candidate should fulfill the admission requirements of this PhD programme at the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture and participate in the training components stipulated in regulations of the PhD program. The annual salary for doctoral researchers is set from wage level 51 (approximately 449 400,-) in the Norwegian State Salary Scale.
