About the position

A PhD fellowship is available at the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture, Nord University (Bodø, Norway) on the project: Phenology and population dynamics of Calanus sp in Nordland fjords.

The position is for 3 years and will be available from 1st March 2019.

Copepods of the genus Calanus are predominant in the zooplankton biomass, playing a key ecological role. The goal of the project is to address the phenology and population dynamics of Calanus in Norwegian fjords. The project will investigate their seasonal and decadal species composition in north Norwegian fjords relying on molecular tools for species ID.

Qualification requirements

We search for a motivated, systematic and independent candidate with an MSc (or equivalent) in molecular ecology, marine ecology, biological oceanography or related disciplines. Practical experience with zooplankton is required. Knowledge and experience in molecular biology/population genetics is desirable.

The grades at the qualifying MSc examination need to be C or better (ECTS scale from A-E) to be admitted to the program.

Proficiency in oral and written English must be documented either by the Norwegian Higher Education Entrance Qualification or internationally recognised certificates, such as TOEFL, IELTS, APIEL or similar. Skills in Scandinavian language is an advantage for the position.

The selected candidate will join the PhD programme in Aquatic Biosciences at Nord University and is expected to complete a doctorate within the three-year project period. The candidate should fulfill the admission requirements of this PhD programme at the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture and participate in the training components stipulated in regulations of the PhD program.
