About REALTEK

The Faculty of Science and Technology has 130 employees, about 1,100 students and about 70 PhD students. The Faculty offers bachelor, master and doctoral degrees in natural sciences and engineering in the fields of environmental physics and renewable energy, building and architecture, water and environmental technology, machine-, process and product development, geomatics and educational sciences. The workplace is in Ås, 30 km from Oslo.

About the position

The Faculty of Science and Technology at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has a vacant permanent position as professor/ associate professor within architectural design.

Three architects, including this position, are responsible for the teaching of three studio courses, BIM, architecture history, sustainable architecture, project management and a free hand drawing course.

The research should be linked to applied research at the faculty, and should also include collaboration with the construction industry within one or more of the following topics:

  • Building analysis
  • Environmental architecture planning
  • Innovative use of IT-technology

Main tasks

Teaching

Three architects, including this position, are responsible for the teaching of three studio courses, BIM, architecture history, sustainable architecture, project management and a free hand drawing course. The content of the courses and the distribution of responsibility for the respective courses will develop according to the faculty’s strategy and the aim to improve teaching. The position will normally have responsibility for two or three courses.

  • Supervising master students
  • Supervising PhD students
  • Administration

Research

The research should be linked to applied research at the faculty, and should also include collaboration with the construction industry within one or more of the following topics:

  • Building analysis
  • Environmental architecture planning
  • Innovative use of IT-technology

Academic and Professional Qualifications

Required Academic qualifications

  • Master degree or similar degree. In addition, you are required to have extensive and relevant experience with planning and implementation of architectural design. This should be interpreted in a broader sense, as e.g. user processes, experimental ideas and environmental achievements. Experience with a high degree of personal responsibility of leading projects.
  • PhD within a relevant field will be regarded as very positive, but not prior to relevant experience with planning and implementation of architectural design or a high level of expertise within sustainable architecture or within BIM/digital design

Besides scientific and professional expertise, we put emphasis on teaching experience, pedagogical and administrative expertise. Applicants without formal training in pedagogy commits to, within two years to undertake NMBUs course in university teaching.

We are looking for an expert within one of the following fields:

  • Experience in the use of BIM technology, parametric design, programming and experience with relevant software connected to planning and design of architecture on an expert level
  • Experience from sustainable, environmental friendly architecture, integration of technical solutions, detailing and materials
  • Expert experience with school buildings, housing or health facility buildings

Desired Academic and Professional qualifications

  • Research experience
  • Published scientific articles
  • Published architecture, or architectural work
  • Experience in leading teams and processes

Required personal skills

  • Personal ability and motivation to establish relevant research and to apply for financing
  • Teamwork skills
  • Interest in doing team research
  • Proficiency in English and Norwegian, both oral and written
  • The applicant must be able to teach, to supervise and to communicate with students and colleagues in Norwegian and English, both on a professional and social level
  • Interest and motivation in teaching

Remuneration and information

The position as Professor is placed in government pay scale position code 1013, salary grade 72-84 (NOK 658 300 – 893900), depending on qualifications.

The position as Associate Professor is placed in code 1011, wage framework 24, salary grade 61-74 (NOK 534 100 – 682 200), depending on qualifications. Seniority Promotion in position.
