About MINA

The faculty has about 200 employees and undertakes teaching, research and dissemination within fields such as geology, soil science, radioecology, environmental chemistry, biology, ecology, natural resource management. The faculty consists of 4 scientific sections, and the Section for Environmental Chemistry is responsible for research and education (MSc, PhD), offering MSc programs in inorganic analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, radiochemistry and radioecology (the only MSc in radioecology in Europe). The section includes the Isotope Laboratory, established 1952, that has participated actively in international research such as EC funded projects since the early 1990s. This lab also serves as the radiation protection authority at Campus Ås, and as an advisor to the national nuclear emergency preparedness committee.

About the position

Are you interested in decarbonizing energy systems and develop methodologies and tools needed for this? Do you want to apply your research to real life challenges and give advice on how to reach environmental and renewable energy targets? If your answer is yes, then working in the Renewable Energy Research Group at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resource Management (MINA), Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) might be something for you.

MINA has a vacant, permanent position as professor in renewable energy.This position will complement and strengthen the renewable energy related research and education profile within the Faculty. The Renewable Energy Research Group has 4 permanent staff (professors and researcher), 1 adjunct professor, 3 adjunct associate professors, 2 researchers/postdocs and 10 PhD students.

Main tasks

The successful candidate will initiate and undertake interdisciplinary research activities within the field of renewable energy, and participate in excellent research-based education. We are looking for an individual with a distinct research profile in renewable energy, preferably working within techno-economic aspects of at least two of the following topics:

  • Energy systems analysis and modelling
  • Sustainability analyses of energy projects and systems
  • Energy demand in a planning and policy context
  • Energy distribution, district heating or fossil free transportation.

Based on the required expertise and experience outlined above, the person to be employed will have the following main tasks:

  • Initiate and undertake research
  • Teach and be responsible for courses
  • Supervise MSc and PhD students
  • Participate in the development of BSc and MSc education programmes
  • Participate in administrative duties

We are looking for someone who:

hold a PhD degree in a highly relevant area, and demonstrate extensive professional qualifications in essential areas of renewable energy systems. Furthermore, the candidate should have an academic background that matches the expertise and tasks mentioned above.

The application should include the applicant’s vision for teaching and research.

The successful applicant must have a strong academic track record showing an interdisciplinary and internationally competitive research output that reflects independent research and demonstrates a clear potential to make future international impacts. Strong emphasis will be placed on publication of research results in recognized international journals within the main tasks for this position. The greatest emphasis is placed on academic work during the past five years. Furthermore, the candidate must have documented ability and experience to initiate research, obtain external funding, lead and complete projects.

Documented teaching and supervision qualification and experience is required. The applicant should demonstrate communication skills that qualify for excellent teaching, supervision, and dissemination.

Good skills in English and ability to teach in a Scandinavian language are required, as a share of the teaching will be in Norwegian.

  • Documented ability to initiate, obtain external funding, and complete research projects
  • Quality, relevance, and quantity of scientific publications
  • International collaboration and experience
  • Pedagogic and administrative proficiency
  • The applicant’s vision for his/her future research and teaching at NMBU

If the person employed does not hold formal proficiency in pedagogics, he/she is obliged to complete NMBU’s course in university pedagogy within two years after appointment.

Remuneration and information

The position is placed in government pay scale position 1013 Professor, salary grade 72 - 80 (NOK 657.900 – 802.200). In the case of particularly highly qualified applicants, a higher salary may be considered.
