About the position

Department of Animal- and Aquacultural Sciences (IHA), Centre for Integrative Genetics (CIGENE), Faculty of Biosciences (BIOVIT), at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) is inviting applications for a 3-year position, with possibilities for extension, as administrative coordinator in CIGENE.

About BIOVIT

BIOVIT is organized into two departments: Department of Animal and Aquacultural Sciences and Department of Plant Sciences.


Department of Animal and Aquacultural Sciences provides fundamental, innovative research and practical solutions to improve productivity and sustainability across the agriculture and aquaculture sector. Currently, disciplines within the department include Animal Nutrition and Feed Technology, Ethology and Animal Environment, Breeding and Quantitative Genetics, and Genome Biology.


The main objective of BIOVIT is to contribute to the development of sustainable agriculture and food production systems through basic and applied research on plants and animals including fish (aquaculture). The faculty houses Centre for Integrative Genetics (CIGENE) and the research center for Research-based Innovation (SFI) – Foods of Norway.


The faculty is responsible for bachelor- and master programmes in Biology, Animal Science and Plant Science, and international master programmes in Agroecology, Plant Science, Aquaculture, Animal Breeding Genetics and Feed Manufacturing Technology.

PhD programmes include Animal Science and Aquaculture, and Plant Sciences. There are currently 480 bachelor and master students, and 90 PhD students, enrolled in these programmes. The faculty has approximately 220 permanent and temporary scientific employees, including technicians, and 18 administrative positions.

The successful candidate will join and support the multidisciplinary genome biology research group at the Department of Animal- and Aquacultural Sciences, which possesses expertise in genetics, evolutionary and comparative genomics, bioinformatics and systems biology.

CIGENE includes 2 full-time professors, 2 associate professors, 1 project administrator, 11 researchers, 4 postdocs, 8 PhD students and 10 research technicians.

CIGENE has a strong aqua- and agriresearch profile, with key strengths in the generation and interpretation of ‘omics’ data to understand the genetic architecture of complex traits. The group wishes to use functional genomics technologies, including gene editing, as a way to better understand the biology underlying specific genotype-phenotype associations. Main tasks

  • Provide administrative support to the research leader group and help to coordinate the planning and execution of center activities such as scientific meetings and workshops, visits from individuals and groups, etc.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the CIGENE web pages and enhancing the group's profile by social media or other avenues
  • Find solutions for day-to-day needs/problems related to the group’s operation
  • Be responsible for facilitating group information meetings and organizing logistics around team-building exercises
  • Support activities related to dissemination and exploitation of research

Qualifications and skills

Required qualifications and competence:

  • Education at Master level or higher with a degree within a relevant area, such as genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, computer science or similar
  • Excellent communication skills both to the scientific community and to a broader audience
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Proficiency in Norwegian and English, both written and spoken

Desired qualifications and competence:

  • Knowledge about the universities and higher education system, research institutes, the Research Council of Norway, EU and their instruments
  • Knowledge about research politics and collaboration between academia, industry and government
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary research
  • Knowledge about WordPress and/or Sharepoint
  • Experience from dissemination and exploitation of research

  • Ability for independent work and driving processes to completion
  • Ability to work across traditional disciplinary borders, create trust and build networks
  • Communicate well in an outgoing and active manner both orally and in writing, also using digital channels, and be outgoing, active and a good representative for the group

Remuneration and information

The position is placed in government pay scale position code 1364 Senior Advisor, salary grade 60-72 (NOK 524 200–658 300) on the Norwegian Government salary scale upon employment depending on qualifications and seniority.
