Job description

A permanent position is available at the Department of Psychology for an Associate Professor in the subject area of personality psychology.

The position will be part of the Section of Health, Developmental, and Personality Psychology. The section has around 25 full time employees, including professors, associate professors, postdocs and PhD-fellows, and includes a personality psychology group and the new PROMENTA research center.

The successful candidate is expected to initiate and lead research, supervise PhD candidates, participate in teaching and in exam setting and assessment at all levels, and to carry out administrative duties in accordance with the needs of the department.

Qualification requirements

• PhD or equivalent academic qualifications with an excellent research profile including personality psychology or other research on individual differences.
• Teaching language is a Scandinavian language or English. Good oral and written presentation skills in English are required. In the event that the person appointed is not competent in a Scandinavian language, he/she will be expected to acquire such competence within two years to be able to participate actively in all functions the position entails

The following qualifications will count in the assessment of the applicants:

• Research experience in fields such as personality, individual differences, mental health, wellbeing, genetics, psychometrics, or longitudinal designs
• An innovative, active and strong research profile with excellent documented potential for performing high quality research. Applicants who have had statutory care leaves should document that.
• Teaching experience in personality psychology, psychometrics and assessment. Ability to fill teaching obligations at the department
• Experience from successful grant applications, leading research projects, and international collaborations.
• High expertise in quantitative analysis (e.g. structural equation, multilevel, epidemiological, genetic, or psychometric methods), and competence in statistical software such as R, Mplus, or Stata
• Personal suitability and team-work ability
• Ambitious and realistic plan for research projects, and long-term potential to high-quality research

A selection committee will invite a limited number of candidates (“short list”) to submit a portfolio of academic work (i.e. up to 10 publications) that are particularly relevant for the position. Academic texts shall therefore not be enclosed with the application.

In the evaluation of the qualified candidates the full range of these criteria will be explicitly addressed and assessed.

Interviews will be part of the appointment process potentially along with a trial lecture.

Formal regulations

The successful candidate who at the time of appointment cannot document basic teaching qualifications will be required to obtain such qualifications within a two-year period.

The successful candidate must demonstrate mastery of both English and one of the Scandinavian languages as working languages. If an appointee is not fluent in a Scandinavian language, the appointee will be expected within a two-year period to learn sufficient Norwegian to be able to participate actively in all functions the position may involve.
