Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM) was established in 2008 and is the Norwegian node in the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. NCMM is a joint venture between the University of Oslo, Health Region South-East and the Research Council of Norway. From 2017 NCMM is merged with the Biotechnology Centre of Oslo and now has altogether 11 research groups. The overall objective of NCMM is to conduct cutting edge research in molecular medicine and biotechnology as well as facilitate translation of discoveries in basic medical research into clinical practice.

Norway formally entered the European Infrastructure for Translational Medicine (EATRIS) as a full member in 2016. The EATRIS consortium provides cutting edge infrastructure and expertise along the entire translational value chain in a ‘One-Stop Shop’, providing a new development pathway open to researchers and companies in need of support for advancing biomedical innovations. EATRIS comprises over 80 leading academic institutions across 13 European countries and provides a great resource for building consortia for competitive applications to Horizon 2020 and other EU-funding programs.

The Norwegian participation in EATRIS is coordinated by Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM) and NCMM is responsible for the administrative tasks of the national infrastructure. The overall objective of NCMM is to conduct cutting edge research in molecular medicine and facilitate translation of discoveries in basic medical research into clinical practice.

NCMM and the Norwegian EATRIS node now offer an open position as Senior Project Manager to join the European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases (EJP-RD) as well as the EATRIS-Plus project, both funded by the European Commission and granted to the EATRIS Consortium. This is a 70% position that is funded for four years. We are inviting for applications to the position of:

Senior Project Manager

A senior innovation project manager (50%) position is available to join the European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases (EJP-RD) in order to accelerate the translation of high potential projects and improve outcomes of clinical studies carried out by members of the Consortium. In addition, a senior project manager position (20%) is available on the EATRIS-Plus project that is aiming to strengthen EATRIS’ long-term capacities as translational enabler for Personalized Medicine. The project manager will together with the other partners participate in implementing joint outreach, training, industry engagement and international collaboration activities.

While the successful candidate would be employed by NCMM, the candidate’s daily work place could in principle also be with one of the other universities or university hospitals that constitute the EATRIS node providing office space is available, and provided that the candidate is willing to travel to Norway / NCMM regularly. Candidates are therefore welcome to indicate preferred work place.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated individual that can work independently. Work tasks would include:

  • Participate in the generation of an innovation management toolbox in the EJP-RD project;
  • Fostering and assessment of ongoing and new translational research projects in rare diseases;
  • Establish and manage mentoring teams for translational research projects in rare diseases;
  • Participate and organize networking events;
  • Detection and promotion of business opportunities;
  • Collaboration in the innovation awareness activities among the Rare Disease Research Community;
  • Implementation of joint outreach, training, industry engagement and international collaboration activities as part of the EATRIS-Plus project.

Qualification requirements

  • Education from university or college, minimum equivalent to a master level. A PhD degree in molecular biology/molecular medicine/life sciences as well as translational expertise would be valued.
  • Experience in managing projects (minimum 2-3 years is mandatory). Previous experience in management of European projects will be considered an advantage.
  • Proven knowledge of the biomedical translational research process and the innovation and funding system, particularly in rare diseases.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

  • Work both independently and in a team;
  • Show creativity and have a high implementation capacity;
  • Be well-organized; methodical, proactive, business- and result-oriented as well as service-minded;
  • Liaise with and work actively together with the European EATRIS team;
  • Communicate fluently both written and spoken in English;
  • Personal suitability for the position will be strongly emphasized.
