The Institute of Health and Society is one of three institutes at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo. The Institute covers various disciplines and consists of six departments: General Practice, Health Sciences, Health Management and Health Economics, Medical Ethics, Community Medicine and Global Health and Nursing Science.


The Institute of Health and Society bases its work on a complex understanding of disease, health and health systems. Culture, environment, economics, society and biology play direct and indirect roles. Our teaching responsibilities include seven Master’s programs, one Bachelor program and part of the Faculty’s medical school and PhD-program. We employ about 220 FTE and have almost 700 Bachelor and Master students. Annual income is about 200 mill NOK, half of which is external funding. Our researchers play an active part of public policy and disseminate new knowledge through many channels.


About the Centre for Global Health: The Centre for Global Health at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo has been established to coordinate and facilitate educational and scientific activities related to global health. The centre aims to contribute to the strengthening of the multidisciplinary collaboration internally at the University of Oslo and with other key players working with global health. It is located at the Institute of Health and Society (Helsam).

We are advertising for a temporary position at the Centre for Global Health for 2 years. The position is placed in the position code executive officer.

Responsibilities:

The position will support the centre Managing Director and the centre Director with ongoing tasks related to the operation of the centre, including websites, social media, assisting in organizing events, and providing general administrative and communication support to the various projects led by the centre. The centre has a small core staff and a large virtual participant base.

Qualification requirements

We seek an employee with relevant education from university or college, at least equivalent to the bachelor level.

We are looking for someone

• with fluent written and oral communication skills in English. An understanding of Norwegian language is preferred, but not crucial;

• with good communication skills and an understanding for how to present complicated issues in a reader friendly manner;

• with a keen interest in global health themes.

Personal skills

The position requires flexibility and a willingness to help with small and large tasks in a small organization. We are looking for someone who is enterprising, flexible, with good communication skills and an ability to take ownership of tasks and follow them through. You are a committed and persistent person with a high working capacity who can appreciate a flexible working day. You are result-oriented. You deliver at the agreed time and quality, and you make things happen. You have a good cultural understanding and find it interesting to familiarize yourself with different subject areas. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability for the position.
