Faculty of Science and Technology / Department of Physics and Technology
The UMO group has experienced a great surge in research, thanks to a constant flow of Horizon2020 funding through ERC and MSCA-IF projects and funding from research council of Norway through diverse projects. The group members represent various disciplines like ultrasound, fabrication, sensing, chemistry, electronic instrumentation, microscopy, optics, nanoscopy, computer engineering, etc.
The appointment is for a duration of 3 years.
Appointment to the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow is mainly intended to provide qualification for work in top academic positions. It is a prerequisite that the applicant is able to carry out the project over the full course of the employment period. No person may hold more than one fixed-term position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the same institution.
The workplace is at UiT in Tromsø. You must be able to start in the position in Tromsø within 6 months after receiving the offer.
The position's field of research
The researcher will be working in the ultrasonic group which is focusing on transducer design and technology for ultrasonic and photoacoustic imaging and sensing. The group will participate in the VirtualStain project through the work package ‘3D label-free microscopy for biological tissue samples using ultrasound modalities’. An important goal for this work package is to realize new polymer-based ultrasonic array transducers. These transducers should be possible to integrate efficiently into an optical microscope to provide 3D photoacoustic imaging of thick tissue samples. Development of novel transducer arrays will be a key component of the project and the postdoc will typically be involved in the following activities:
Design of new transducers suitable for photoacoustic imaging
Developing laboratory transducer prototypes
Experimental characterization of electrical and acoustical properties
Imaging tests on phantoms and tissue samples.
Support for master and PhD students allied with the group
Scientific dissemination related to the project
