The Institute of Health and Society is one of three institutes at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oslo. The Institute covers various disciplines and consists of six departments: General Practice, Health Sciences, Health Management and Health Economics, Medical Ethics, Community Medicine and Global Health and Nursing Science.


The Institute of Health and Society bases its work on a complex understanding of disease, health and health systems. Culture, environment, economics, society and biology play direct and indirect roles.
Our teaching responsibilities include seven Master’s programs, one Bachelor program and part of the Faculty’s medical school and PhD-program. We employ about 220 FTE and have almost 700 Bachelor and Master students. Annual income is about 200 mill NOK, half of which is external funding. Our researchers play an active part of public policy and disseminate new knowledge through many channels.

A 20 % position of university lecturer in nutrition is available at the Department of Community Medicine and Global Health, Institute of Health and Society, University of Oslo.

The position will be part of the Department of Community Medicine and Global Health with the following responsibilities:

  • to teach courses, particularly courses in non-communicable diseases, nutrition and research methodology related to nutritional factors
  • to sensor exams related to these topics
  • to supervise theses at master level

Exact teaching and administrative assignments will be arranged depending on qualifications and teaching needs within the department.

Qualification requirements

  • At minumum Master's degree or equivalent academic qualifications with a specialization in nutrition
  • An understanding of the major global health challenges related to nutritional factors is expected and also knowledge about the underlying cultural, social, economic and environmental determinants of the communicable and non-communicable diseases
  • Teaching experience within relevant fields at the graduate level (Master's degree) is expected
  • Experience with nutrition intervention programs in developing countries, especially nutrition programs directed towards child health and nutrition care for this group, will be considered beneficial
  • Good oral and written proficiency in English and Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language) is expected

  • salary NOK 504 700,- – 640 200,- per annum depending on qualifications in position as University Lecturer (position code 1009)
