The Department of Pharmacy has 130 employees. We have an active research and innovation environment based on independent research in pharmaceutical topics. The Department of Pharmacy is responsible for the popular master's degree program in pharmacy and has 350 competent and committed students.


Pharmaceutical related research and education forms the base of all activities at the Department of Pharmacy. The science of pharmacy lies in the interface between the natural sciences, pharmaceutical technology, health related topics and social sciences. This interdisciplinarity is reflected both in our study programmes and in our research.

Job description

A position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow is available at the Department of Pharmacy at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

The fellowship will be for a period of three (3) years.

No one can be appointed for more than one Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Oslo. Starting date no later than October 1, 2021.

The position is part of the PharmacoEpidemiology and Drug Safety Research Group. The research group has more than 20 individuals: 4 full-time researchers, 4 adjunct positions and over 10 PhD-students and post-docs. The PharmaSafe Research group is internationally recognized, with a broad range of research areas including pharmacoepidemiology, eMedicine management, medication safety and clinical pharmacy, with special focus on vulnerable patient groups. The research group is multidisciplinary and has expertise within pharmacoepidemiology, biostatistics, genetics, psychiatry, pharmacotherapy, social- and clinical pharmacy.

Job description / Project description / Development plan

The candidate will be exploring use and impact of eMM systems and tools in connection with the SafeDigiMeds project, a collaborative research project aimed at generating and disseminating evidence on digitalisation of medicines management initiatives. The background for this project is the lack of knowledge about the effects these initiatives have on patient safety, workflow and work culture. Important aspects to comprehend are how best practice of eMM can be shared at a national and European level.

The candidate will also be included in the National research network for digital medicine management initiative in collaboration with the Norwegian Centre for E-health Research, and the European Network to Advance Best practices & technoLogy on medication adherence (ENABLE).

Teaching obligations (10%) at the Section for Pharmaceutics and Social Pharmacy are part of the position.

The main purpose of a postdoctoral fellowship is to provide the candidates with enhanced skills to pursue a scientific top position within or beyond academia. To promote a strategic career path, all postdoctoral research fellows are required to submit a professional development plan no later than one month after commencement of the postdoctoral period.

Qualification requirements

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition is to be among Europe’s leading communities for research, education and innovation. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

  • Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in (pharmacy, medicine, nursing science, sociology, psychology). Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Only applicants with an approved doctoral thesis and public defense are eligible for appointment
  • Extensive experience in qualitative research methods
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and preferably a Scandinavian language

The following will be considered advantages:

  • Research experience in implementation, use and impact of eMM in hospitals, nursing homes and/or home care services
  • Experience with quantitative research methods
  • Strong record of scientific publications
