About the position

Position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow available at Department of Pharmacy, Section of Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

The appointment is a fulltime position and is made for a period of three years (10% of which is devoted to required duties). Starting date no later than 01.04.2021.

Job description / Project description / Development plan

The position will be associated with the research group BioNatH (www.mn.uio.no/farmasi/english/research/groups/bionath/index.html) in collaboration with Pharmaceutical microbiology and immunology. Other internal and external collaborating partners may be included.

The appointed person will work with analysis of the antibacterial activity of honey and establishing methods for its compositional characterization. This will include identification and quantification of carbohydrates and phenolic compounds as well as other characteristics relevant for antibacterial activity. Relevant methods include HPLC, HPAEC-PAD, NMR, LC-MS/MS and FT-IR, and tools for bio-assays. The successful candidate may be trained in antimicrobial activity screening (MIC-assays). Some of the methods mentioned may be performed in collaboration with other institutions and/or as part of a research stay abroad.

The main purpose of a postdoctoral fellowship is to provide the candidates with enhanced skills to pursue a scientific top position within or beyond academia. To promote a strategic career path, all postdoctoral research fellows are required to submit a professional development plan no later than one month after commencement of the postdoctoral period.

Qualification requirements

Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

• Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical biology or a nearby relevant research area such as biochemistry or natural product chemistry. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Only applicants with an approved doctoral thesis and public defense are eligible for appointment.
• Experience with relevant analytical instrumentation such as NMR, LC-MS/MS, HPLC, HPAEC-PAD is required
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
