The Faculty of Dentistry has two departments: Institute of Clinical Dentistry and Department of Oral Biology.

Job description

Applicants are invited for a 2,5 year position as Postdoctoral Fellow in in novel endosseous implantable biomaterials to be based at the The Department of Biomaterials, Institute of Clinical Dentistry, University of Oslo.

In order to establish novel endosseous biomaterials with high bio-activity and ideal immuno-compatibility, the University of Oslo is looking for a postdoctoral fellow with expertise in dentistry and biomaterials.

More about the position

The appointment is a full-time, 2.5-year position planned to start 01.08.2022 or as soon as possible. The position will be based at the Department of Biomaterials, Institute of Clinical Dentistry, University of Oslo. The appointed candidate will take part in an international team to build novel biomaterials, deliver knowledge and form potential commercial products.

The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

Your tasks:

  • Develop and optimize the synthesis and modification of advanced biomaterials, including but not limited to mineral materials, organic materials, polymer, metal and metallic compounds-based materials. Etc.
  • Establish novel endosseous implantable materials with different application form (scaffold, ceramic, granules, hydrogel, surface coating .etc.) and perform physical-chemical characterization.
  • Investigate the bio-safety, bio-activity and immuno-compatibility of new biomaterials in-vitro and in-vivo, with basic and high-throughput research model.
  • Analyze data and organize scientific paper.
  • Clinical/preclinical study and potential commercial translation of new materials

Requirements/qualifications

  • By the start date of this postdoc position, the candidate must hold a PhD degree in dentistry or biomaterials science (equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree), and has at least one postdoctoral working experience.
  • Practical knowledge and documented surgical experience of dental surgery (dental implant surgery, bone augmentation surgery or periodontal GBR surgery)
  • Documented expertise in cell biological research and animal research in-vivo (primary cell culture and related molecular-biological techniques, including cell sorting, flow-cytometry, transfection, co-culture, qPCR, western blot, ELISA, immunocytochemistry/immunohistochemistry, animal operation, high-throughput research techniques. Etc.).
  • Research background of immunological reaction to biomaterials (Required).
  • Practical knowledge of biomaterials characterization (SEM, AFM, FTIR, XPS. Etc.) (Required).
  • Working knowledge of data analysis image generation such as confocal/μCT data analysis and diagram drawing etc. (Preferred).
  • Advanced level of English in reading, paper writing and speaking (Required).
  • Publishing record in top journals (Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Biomaterials, Acta Biomaterialia. Etc.) (Preferred).
  • Ability to carry out research project independently.
  • Ability to cooperate and work in an international and multi-cultural team.
