In addition to educating dentists and dental hygienists, the Faculty has Ph.D program and professional-oriented specialist education. The Faculty holds significant competence in the various research and clinical disciplines, with good interdisciplinary collaboration. It is a modern faculty with approximately 450 students and approximately 450 employees. The faculty is also Norway's largest dental clinic with approximately 55,000 patient visits a year. The Faculty of Dentistry has two departments: Institute of Clinical Dentistry and Department of Oral Biology.

PhD Research Fellow - Institutt of Clinical Dentistry

A 3-4 year PhD Research fellowship (position code 1017) is available at the Institute of Clinical Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry.

More about the position

The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The fellowship requires admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Dentistry.

The fellowship period is three (3) years. Candidates may be offered one additional year by the Faculty of Dentistry; the four (4) year position then entails a compulsory workload of 25% that may consist of teaching, supervision duties, and research assistance. This will be decided at the time of appointment.

Qualification requirements

The Faculty of Dentistry has a strategic ambition to be among Europe’s leading communities for research, education and innovation. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

For all three candidates, we require:

  • Applicants must hold a master’s degree in dentistry equivalent to the Mast. Odont. degree in Norway
  • The average grade point for courses included in the Master’s degree must be B or better in the Norwegian educational system
  • The Master’s thesis must have the grade B or better in the Norwegian educational system
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English and a Scandinavian language.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in a Scandinavian language is required for a 4-year fellowship including teaching duties.
  • English requirements for applicants from outside of EU/EEA countries and exemptions from the requirements

No one can be appointed for more than one PhD Research Fellowship period at the University of Oslo.
