Department of Mathematics is part of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The Department is engaged in research covering a wide spectrum of subjects within mathematics, mechanics and statistics.

Position as PhD Research Fellow in mathematics available at Department of Mathematics, University of Oslo.

The fellowship period is 3 years, with no compulsory teaching or administrative duties.

Starting date no later than 01.10.2020.

The fellowship is financed by the Research Council of Norway as part of the project “Quantum Symmetry”, project nr. 300837. The successful candidate will work on a project related to quantum groups and tensor categories, and will be affiliated with Section 6 - Several Complex Variables, Logic and Operator Algebras – of the Department of Mathematics. Qualification requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Mathematics
  • Foreign completed degree (M.Sc.-level) corresponding to a minimum of four years in the Norwegian educational system

Candidates without a Master’s degree have until 30 August 2020 to complete the final exam.

The preference will be given to candidates with some knowledge of quantum groups and tensor categories, either in analytic (operator algebraic) or purely algebraic setting.

Grade requirements:

  • The average grade point for courses included in the Bachelor’s degree must be C or better in the Norwegian educational system
  • The average grade point for courses included in the Master’s degree must be B or better in the Norwegian educational system
  • The Master’s thesis must have the grade B or better in the Norwegian educational system
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
