Applicants are invited for a Research Fellowship as PhD Candidate in Cognitive Hearing Science to be based at the Department of Special Needs Education, Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Oslo.

The position will be within the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska - Curie (MSC) Innovative Training Network (ITN) Communication for Children with Hearing Impairment to optimize Language Development (Comm4Child). Comm4Child is a graduate school for 15 early-stage researchers investigating different aspects of hearing impaired children’s language and communicative development. More about the position

The fellowship period is 3 years. The research fellow must take part in the Faculty’s approved PhD program and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.

The successful candidate must satisfy the formal requirements for admission to the Faculty’s PhD program:

• Documented successful completion of a Master’s degree (120 ECTS) or equivalent. The Master’s degree must include a thesis of at least 30 ECTS
• Minimum grade B or equivalent (ECTS grading scale) for the Master’s degree, including the grade on the thesis

Qualification requirements

• Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in an area of relevance to Cognitive Hearing Science (e.g. cognitive developmental psychology, hearing, speech and language, educational audiologist, logopedics or neuroscience (please see the paragraph above for further requirements regarding the Master’s degree)
• Training in quantitative methods and attitude to rigorous empirical analysis
• Excellent English writing and communication skills; knowledge of Norwegian is not required
• Willingness to travel nationally and internationally
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a strong personal commitment
• Mobility rule: Applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Norway for more than 12 months in the 3 years before the recruitment date 1 July 2020
• Early-stage researcher status: Applicants cannot have been awarded a doctoral degree and/or completed more than four years of full-time equivalent research experience at the date of recruitment

• The applicants’ academic attitude for completing the research training program
• The applicant’s personal suitability and motivation for the post, including his/her ability to collaborate and to form part of a cross-disciplinary and internationally composed academic community

Employment will include an extended period of secondment at another European university, and several shorter visits across Europe participating in training activities

• Salary NOK 479 600 – 523 200 per annum depending on qualifications in a position as PhD Research fellow, (position code 1017). Research fellows are normally allocated pay grade 54, NOK 479 600, on appointment and remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. In addition, and according to the rules of the Marie Skłodowska -Curie Actions (MSCA), a modest Family Allowance is available for candidates satisfying specific EU criteria
