About the position
The NMBU School of Economics and Business (Handelshøyskolen) has a vacancy for a PhD position within climate economics. The position is for three years. The planned start-up is January 2022.
The available position is part of the new project, “Developing value chains for CO2 storage and blue hydrogen in Europe” (Device), financed by the Research Council of Norway and lead by the Frisch Centre.
The main workplace for the PhD will be at NMBU with opportunities for research stays at the Frisch Centre and academic institutions abroad.
The main goal of the PhD position is to develop of research capacity and competence. The successful applicants will participate in the School’s PhD programme in Economics and Business. The period of appointment is three years but may be extended to three and a half years if the PhD student contributes to teaching, supervision, research assistance, exam grading, and administration.
The successful candidate is expected to submit a plan for the progress of the work towards a PhD degree during the first months of the appointment, with a view to completing a doctorate within the PhD fellowship period.
Main tasks
In the research project, the PhD candidate will contribute to study how to develop value chains for CO2 storage and blue hydrogen in Europe (natural gas-based hydrogen production with capture and storage of CO2). Possible tasks may include analyzing factors influencing the demand for and the supply of CO2 storage; the interactions between value chains for CO2 storage and blue hydrogen; competition between green and blue hydrogen; and policy instruments to develop value chains for CO2 storage and blue hydrogen. The contribution of the PhD will be a combination of theoretical modelling based and empirical work. The PhD candidate will work closely with senior researchers. The specific tasks of the PhD candidate will be decided based on discussions with supervisors and other project participants. More information about the overall research project is found here.
Competence
The successful applicant must meet the conditions defined for admission to a PhD programme at NMBU.
The applicant must have an academically relevant education corresponding to a five-year Norwegian degree programme, where 120 credits are at the Master degree level.
Relevant educations are Master degrees in economics, business or related fields.
Candidates without a Master degree have until 31. December 2021 to complete the final exam.
An average grade of B or better for the overall Master degree and a grade of B or better on the Master’s theses are required.
Emphasis is placed on analytical skills, academic grades, motivation, and qualifications to complete a PhD study. The candidate must be able to work independently, participate actively in the academic community, and be innovative and creative. It is an advantage if the applicant speaks and writes Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.
The applicant must have a strong academic background from previous studies and proficiency in both written and oral English. For more detailed information on the admission criteria please see the PhD Regulations and the relevant PhD programme description.
Remuneration and further information
The position is placed in government pay scale position code 1017. PhD Fellows are normally placed in pay grade 54 (NOK 491.200) on the Norwegian Government salary scale upon employment and follow ordinary meriting regulations.
Employment is conducted according to national guidelines for University and Technical College PhD scholars.
