The Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resource Management (MINA) works with nature and the environment, sustainable use of natural resources, biological and geological processes.

The postdoctoral researcher will conduct research at Finse, Norway on a project to examine responses to climate warming and changes in snow duration across trophic levels (i.e. vascular and cryptogram communities, soil fauna, insect herbivores), and interactions between these groups. We will elucidate how responses at these levels affect carbon and nutrient cycling. The candidate will perform sampling and data analysis from previously established experiments, as well as set up new experiments on temperature and snow effects on plant, insect and soil-fauna interactions.

The position is funded by NMBU and will last for two years, with a starting date of April 2020.

Main tasks

The main activities include the following tasks:

  • Be responsible for existing and new field experiments
  • Set up, run, and analyse data from time-lapse cameras for insect monitoring
  • Sample and analyse plant, insect, and soil fauna data
  • Write articles for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals on both existing and new data

We are looking for someone who:

Required Academic qualifications

  • Successful applicants to the postdoctoral researcher position must hold a PhD degree in a relevant scientific area.
  • Knowledge on alpine plant, lichen, soil fauna and insect species
  • Experience with time-lapse cameras
  • Proficiency using the statistical programming language R and various R packages.

  • Ability to work in the field under harsh conditions
  • Desire to work as part of a team
  • Independent and self-motivated

You need to:

  • Have excellent writing skills in English
  • Be part of the team at MINA NMBU on a daily basis

Remuneration and information

The PhD-position is placed in government pay scale position code 1352 Postdoctoral Fellow, wage framework 24 (salary grade 59-65) (NOK 523.200-583.900), depending on qualifications. Seniority Promotion in position.
