About the position

The Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resource Management (MINA) at Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has one vacant position, either a 3-year PhD or a 2-year postdoctoral researcher (Post.Doc) position. The decision on if the position will be a PhD or a Post.Doc position, will be made after potential candidates have been interviewed. The Faculty of Environmental Sciences and Natural Resource Management (MINA) works with nature and the environment, sustainable use of natural resources, biological and geological processes.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of researchers in a project funded by the Research Council of Norway and NMBU:

“Precision forestry for improved resource utilization and reduced wood decay in Norwegian forests” (PRECISION)

Project details:

PRECISION concentrates on developing a precision forestry framework for reducing the impact of root rot on the forest resources and thereby improve resource utilization and increase the forest sector value creation. PRECISION is an interdisciplinary research consortium spanning the fields of robotics and forest technology, remote sensing, pathology, silviculture, forest management planning, and economics. Main tasks

Advanced analyses of high-resolution spectral and structural indicators of the health of living trees and forest stands extracted from various remotely sensed data.

For the PhD position, the successful candidate is expected to submit a progress plan for the work towards a PhD degree during the first months of the appointment, with the aim to complete a doctorate within the PhD scholarship period of three years.

The main purpose of the post-doctoral position is to qualify for work in high-level scientific positions. A PhD degree is required.

Qualification:

The successful applicant must meet the conditions defined for admission to a PhD programme at NMBU. The applicant must have an academically relevant education corresponding to a five-year Norwegian degree programme, where 120 credits are at master's degree level. The applicant must have a documented strong academic background from previous studies and be able to document proficiency in both written and oral English. Required Academic qualifications:

  • Successful applicants to the postdoctoral researcher position must hold a PhD degree in a relevant scientific area.
  • The applicants must document relevant competence and interest related to the research areas related to the position. The required academic qualifications for the position are listed below.

The following experiences and skills will be emphasized in both Post.doc and PhD position:

  • Advanced processing of multi-/hyperspectral data
  • Experience with vegetation monitoring using spectral data
  • Use of remotely sensed data in forest applications.
  • Experience with data analyses using R or other statistical computing software.
  • Experience with the use of Geographical Information Systems.

Remuneration and information

The PhD-position is placed in government pay scale position code 1017 PhD. Fellow. PhD. Fellows are normally placed in pay grade 54 (NOK 479.600,-) on the Norwegian Government salary scale upon employment and follow ordinary meriting regulations.

Employment is conducted according to national guidelines for University and Technical College PhD scholars.

The Postdoc-position is placed in government pay scale position code 1352 Postdoctoral Fellow, wage framework 24 (salary grade 59-63) (NOK 523.200-563.700), depending on qualifications. Seniority Promotion in position.
