The Health Effects Laboratory

NILU – Norwegian Institute for Air Research, offers a permanent position as senior scientist within the field of human toxicology at the Health Effects Laboratory.

The Health Effects Laboratory is part of Department for Environmental Chemistry and do mainly project based research, focusing on human hazard characterization and risk assessment of pollutants and nanomaterials. We do in vitro toxicity testing, and the focus is on nanomaterials and nanosafety. Main research areas are genotoxicity and mutagenicity. The laboratory is certified for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and quality assurance and good procedures are important in all our work.

We are partner in many international projects (e.g. EuroNanoMed, H2020, EU Twinning and RCN-funded) within (nano)toxicology, advanced in vitro models, safe by design and risk assessment, and are currently coordinating the large H2020 project RiskGONE for science-based risk governance of nanomaterials. Our laboratories are advanced and well equipped for both in vitro toxicity testing and chemical analysis of pollutants in air and other biota. Required education and background

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, and highly motivated senior scientist with strong scientific track record, good communication skills and a positive attitude to both work and colleagues. Personality that fits to our great team will be important when selecting the successful candidate.

Required education and background:

  • PhD in toxicology or other relevant discipline (e.g. cell biology, molecular biology)
  • Several years of relevant experience after PhD
  • Expertise in human risk assessment, genotoxicity, air pollution, advanced models or modelling preferred
  • Experience in network building, project acquisition and project management preferred
  • Language skills: Good knowledge of Norwegian and English language (written and oral) is required. It is not a requirement that the candidate speaks and writes Norwegian when starting in the position, but it is necessary to learn Norwegian.

  • Proposal writing and project acquisition
