A Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship (SKO 1352) is available with the interdisciplinary research project "Living the Nordic Model". The successful candidate will be employed by the Department of Media and Communication, University of Oslo."Living the Nordic Model" is an interdisciplinary research project established and part-funded by the University of Oslo’s UiO:Norden initiative. The project is led by Professor Elisabeth Staksrud. The project explores institutions, ideals and practice related to childhood, family and growing up in the Nordic region. The project has research funding from 2018 to 2021. The project so far includes researchers from the Faculty of Humanities (Department of Media and Communication and Department of Philosophy, Classics, History of Art and Ideas), the Faculty of Educational Sciences (Department of Education), the Faculty of Social Science (Department of Psychology) and the Centre for Gender Research. We encourage applicants from all disciplines working with thematic, theoretical and methodological approaches relevant to "Living the Nordic Model" to apply. It is expected that the successful candidate will engage in activities and collaboration of relevance to the "Living the Nordic Model" project. This includes in particular participating in project workshops and research collaboration, as well as publishing research of relevance to the project. The postdoctoral research fellow will work with other project employees at a shared office facility at the Department of Media and Communication.

More about the position

The position is available for a period of 3 years. There is a 10 % component of the position which is devoted to teaching and administrative duties.

The successful candidate is expected to become part of the research environment/network of "Living the Nordic Model" and contribute to its development.

The main purpose of postdoctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

Estimated starting date is expected to be spring 2019.

Qualification requirements

• PhD or equivalent academic qualifications with a specialization in (an) area(s) closely connected to the research profile of "Living the Nordic Model". This includes, but is not limited to, media and communication, history of ideas, educational science, psychology, anthropology, sociology and/or gender research.
• The candidate's research project must be closely connected to one or more of the themes outlined in "Living the Nordic Model"’s project description.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.
• Personal suitability and motivation for the position.

The doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. For candidates who have not publicly defended their PhD thesis, appointment will be dependent on the approval of the doctoral thesis for defense. The public defense must be approved before the position is taken up.

In the evaluation of qualified applications, emphasis will be placed on:

• The project’s scientific merit
• The applicant’s estimated academic and personal ability to carry out the project within the allotted time frame and contribute to "Living the Nordic Model"’s interdisciplinary collaboration
• Excellent co-operative skills, and the ability to successfully join in academic collaboration within and across disciplines
• The extent to which the project description complements the "Living the Nordic Model" project overall will also be emphasized in the ranking of qualified applicants.
