Western Norway University of Applied Sciences has an available position for Professor in Early Childhood Pedagogy at the Faculty of Education, Arts and Sports, Department of Pedagogy, Religion and Social Studies

About the position:

Do you have any ideas about how to strengthen research in the field of early childhood education and profession? Kindergarten education relates to the age group of 1-6 years and the profession relates to kindergarten teachers. Are you interested in developing and shaping pedagogy and bildung involved in the training of kindergarten teachers?

Norwegian kindergartens are based on a holistic view of children and learning, a mandate from society that must be taken seriously at a time where demands and expectations toward teacher training and kindergartens are changing. Are you motivated to work together with committed colleagues to educate pre-school teachers who, on the basis of robust theory and research, can contribute to quality education in kindergartens? If so, you may be the right person for this position.

Additionally, our employees are responsible for domestic and international duties, including hosting academic secretariats for international collaborations. The community has established local, regional, national and international partnerships and wishes to strengthen regional, national and international collaboration, and the relationship between education and research. Increasing the number of externally funded research projects is also a key objective. We have offices in new buildings with excellent contemporary facilities for teaching and research.

The position will be based at the Bergen campus.

Key duties- and responsibilities:

  • The person appointed is expected to lead and initiate research, supervise researchers, participate in the teaching of students and research fellows and undertake duties in connection with examinations, as well as undertaking administrative tasks.
  • The position is affiliated with an academic community combining teaching and pedagogical research in early years learning. The research community is large, active and growing, and is involved with teaching in bachelor ECE teacher training, a Master's program in ECE, the PhD program Studies in Bildung and pedagogical practices at HVL, campus Bergen.
  • The research activities relate to a broad spectrum of pedagogical practices with children, staff and families, including play, learning, care and formative development. Social sustainability, diversity, inclusion and professional development are at the core of the milieus interest. The research work is organized in research groups and research programs and the person appointed can be affiliated to the KINDknow research center (BARNkunne https://www.hvl.no/en/about/kindergarten-knowledge-centre/about/)
  • The person appointed will work in a research & development team to inspire and to be a driving force for initiating projects and research grant applications. Duties will include developing research activities, teaching and supervision.
  • The person appointed will also be expected to participate in institutional work such as councils, committees and working groups at the Faculty of Education.

Qualifications:

  • The applicant must fulfil the qualification requirements for full Professor in Education, with experience in and a research profile that is relevant for the kindergarten field of practice and the kindergarten teaching profession.
  • The applicant should have experience with relevant international networks, project manager experience from externally funded research projects, good collaboration skills and teaching and supervision experience at different levels.
  • The applicant must have good oral and written command of either a Scandinavian language or English.

The position as Professor is paid according to the Government's salary regulation, in position code 1013 - Professor
