Job description

Applications are invited for a researcher position in theoretical brain physics at the Department of Physics, University of Oslo. The position is funded by the NESD program in the US as part of the project ”BISC: Bioelectronic Interfacing to Sensory Cortex”. The position is expected to be for 3 years, and expected start date is in October 2018. Note that the position will depend on succesful finalization of contracts.

Project description

The successful candidate will develop and apply physics-based computational methods to model electrical measurement and stimulation of nerve cells to aid the design of a bioelectronic device.

The candidate will work in the internationally leading cross-disciplinary environment CINPLA (cinpla.org), a research center set up by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Presently, CINPLA includes about twenty biologists, physicists, and computer scientists co-localised in the building of Department of Biosciences at UiO.

The candidate will develop and use state-of-the-art computer simulation packages and national supercomputer resources.

Qualification requirements

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for this position will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

Applicants must hold a PhD in computational neuroscience and should have previous research experience on modeling electrical stimulation of nerve cells by microelectrodes. The candidate must have demonstrated strong skills in developing codes for scientific computing. A good command of English is required.
