The Department of Economics is the largest and highest ranked institute for economic research in Norway. The Department offers Bachelor's and Masters's programmes, as well as a doctoral programme with approximately 40 students. The department hosts a Centre for the study of Equality, Social Organization and Performance (ESOP) and a Centre for Public Economics, Oslo Fiscal Studies (OFS).

Job description

The Department of Economics invites applicants for 1-2 tenure-track Assistant Professor (Postdoctoral Fellow) SKO 1352 or Associate Professor position SKO 1011. The opening is for a general research position including teaching and administrative duties. The position is open for all areas in economics and finance.

The appointment is a fulltime position for a period of seven years, including teaching duties and some administration. A formal midway evaluation will be held in the fourth year of the tenure-track period. At the end of the fixed-term period, the candidate will be evaluated for a tenured position according to the Department’s criteria, specified in the employment contract.

More about the position

We are looking for a candidate with potential for outstanding research and teaching of high quality. The candidate should have achieved a PhD degree no earlier than 2017 (additional time may be allowed for leave related to childbirth or adoption), or expect to complete a PhD no later than 30 September 2022.Candidates who have worked in a postdoctoral position for more than one year will be evaluated for a tenure-track Associate Professor position. Successful completion of a doctoral degree is a prerequisite for taking up the position.

The assessment of applicants is based on scientific merits, research potential, teaching, research leadership, administrative experience and personal qualities, as well as the Department's teaching obligations and long-term academic development. Personal suitability will be emphasized.

No one can be appointed for more than one Postdoctoral Fellow period at the University of Oslo.

A candidate hired in a tenure-track position who is not an independent user (CEFR level B) of Norwegian, Danish or Swedish is required to enroll in Norwegian courses offered by the University of Oslo during the fixed-term period. A candidate hired in a tenured position is required to become an independent user (CEFR level B) of Norwegian, Danish or Swedish within the two first years to be able to participate actively in all the functions the position entails, including administrative tasks.
