Oslo University Hospital (OUH) is Norway’s largest hospital with over 20 000 employees and a budget of 20 billion NOK. The Hospital has a local function for parts of Oslo's population and a regional function for the inhabitants in the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. It also has a large number of national functions. The Hospital is responsible for the majority of medical research and education of health personnel in Norway.

A permanent position as Senior Consultant (neurosurgery) is available at the Division of Neurosurgery, Oslo University Hospital. The position is affiliated with a part time position as Adjunct Professor SKO 1013 /Associate Professor SKO 1011 (20 % position) in Medicine (neurosurgery) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). It is required that the position holder attends to both positions.

About the position

The Institute of Clinical Medicine has a vacant position as Professor II /Associate Professor (20 % position) of Medicine, (Neurosurgery) .

The part-time academic position (20%) is combined with a full-time Senior Consultant position at the The Department of Neurosurgery, Division of of Clinical Neuroscience, Oslo University Hospital. The Division of of Clinical Neuroscience.

The Department has clinical activity and teaching activity at two locations, the former Rikshospitalet and former Ullevål Hospital. The Department is responsible for teaching medical students within the neurosurgical disciplines. The research activity at the Department is organized in research groups with extensive research projects within hydrocephalus, vascular neurosurgery, treatment of tumours, degenerative spine surgery, neurotraumatology, functional- and paediatric neurosurgery. The Vilhelm Magnus Research Laboratory, which is located at Rikshospitalet and associated with the Department, conducts advanced research on stem cells and vaccination treatment of malignant brain tumours.

Regarding the full-time clinical position at OUH:

The Department of Neurosurgery is part of the Division of Neuroscience at Oslo University Hospital and The University of Oslo. The Department has clinical activity and teaching activity at two locations, the former Rikshospitalet and Ullevål Hospital. It consists of the following sections: Paediatric and Craniofacial Neurosurgery, Spine Neurosurgery, Neuro-oncological Neurosurgery, Neurovascular Surgery, Functional Neurosurgery, Section of Clinical Neurophysiology, Hydrocephalus, Neurotrauma and Neurointensive Care. The research activity at the Department is organized in research groups with extensive research projects within hydrocephalus, vascular neurosurgery, brain tumours, degenerative spine surgery, neurotraumatology, functional- and paediatric neurosurgery. Qualification requirements – education and relevant personal qualities:

  • Applicant must be a board-certified neurosurgeon, clinically active and have a wide experience in clinical and/or basic neurosurgical research.
  • Applicant must have clinical and research experience related to one of the aforementioned sections.
  • Norwegian health authorities demand a board certification issued in Norway in order to work as a neurosurgeon in Norway. Applicants without a Norwegian board certification must present in detail how they will get a Norwegian board certification in due time.
  • Certificate of good conduct
  • Personal suitability and good collaborative skills will be emphasized
