A permanent position is available at the Department of Molecular Medicine, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences for an Associate Professor or a Full Professor in the subject area of anatomy.

The position is within the Division of Anatomy, which consists of 12 professors / associate professors. Current research areas at the Division include immunology and molecular-to-system level neuroscience using a variety of approaches, such as molecular/cell biology, microscopy imaging and neuroinformatics. The (Associate) Professor to be hired is expected to conduct innovative research, secure external funding, participate in teaching duties and carry out administrative tasks. The successful applicant’s research expertise should synergize with ongoing research in the Department, be internationally competitive and promote international cooperation. S/he should have experience in teaching human anatomy, and motivation to contribute to improvement of the teaching curriculum. High ambitions and excellent quality of teaching and communication are expected.

The successful applicant will have a clear and ambitious yet realistic research plan and a strategy to acquire external funding. The plan should describe the research program to be established and how it will synergize with ongoing research in the Division and the Department.

As Associate professor, we wish to recruit a candidate in a rising career phase who has demonstrated a promising research trajectory, strong motivation and ability for anatomy teaching and potential for attracting independent external funding. Qualified candidates will have opportunity to apply for promotion to full professorship at a later stage.

As Full professor, we wish to recruit a well-established researcher who has extensive experience with anatomy teaching and has demonstrated excellent research, has attracted external funding, led several research projects and created an attractive research environment. Such candidates must fulfill the requirements for full professorship at the University of Oslo.

Qualification requirements

• A PhD with a specialization in basic medical sciences
• An MD degree in medicine, or substantial experience with academic human anatomy teaching
• Research background in relevant basic medical sciences (human anatomy, immunology or neuroscience)
• Formal experience as PhD student main supervisor or co-supervisor
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish, or a plan to attain this within 2 years (see formal regulations below)

Assessment criteria

The basis of assessment of the applicants is academic qualifications including pedagogical, publishing and administrative skills. We will explicitly evaluate the following factors in the assessment of the applicants:

• Track-record in relevant biomedical research and plans for carrying out excellent and internationally competitive research in a relevant basic medical science field (human anatomy, immunology or neuroscience)
• Success in grant applications, and potential for acquisition of extramural funding
• Documented ability, motivation, and plan to deliver excellent teaching of clinically relevant human anatomy from molecular to macroscopic level to medical students.
• Ability to enthusiastically communicate complex scientific topics
• Team-working skills and ability to create an attractive and internationally competitive research environment

An interview will be part of the appointment process; it will consist of a trial lecture on a pre-assigned teaching subject, a research presentation and an interview per se.
