A temporary position as associate professor is available at the Department of Informatics.

Starting as soon as possible, and ending on 31 December 2021.

Description of the research group

The position will be affiliated with the research group for Analytical Solutions and Reasoning (ASR). The core research themes of ASR are applied logic, semantic technology, data integration, formal models and analysis, with applications within Big Data related to the oil and gas domain and the health domain. In accordance with this, the group’s course portfolio comprises courses within formal logic and logical methods, semantic technologies, and databases.

To strengthen the Data Science profile of the Department as well as of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the group has cooperated with researchers at the Department of Mathematics on establishing a study programme in Data Science. ASR is a key participant in the Sirius Centre for Research-based Innovation on Scalable Data Access funded by the Research Council of Norway (RCN), and also participates in a number of research projects funded by RCN, the European Commission, and others.

Description of the position

The successful applicant is expected to partake in and contribute to ASR’s research activities, with a particular focus on database theory and logic. The applicant is expected to strengthen the group's database teaching with a special responsibility for the course IN3020/IN4020 – Database Systems.

Qualification requirements

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has the ambition to be a leading research faculty. The candidate will be selected in line with this ambition and is expected to have strong academic qualifications.

• The applicant must hold a doctorate degree within an area of expertise that is relevant to the position, and must have achieved qualifications pertinent to the level of associate professor in informatics.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English

Since the position is assigned obligations related to the database courses, it is required that the applicant can document knowledge within databases and database theory of an extent and profundity that justifies the applicant's abilities to contribute professionally to the teaching and development of the database and data science portfolio. Moreover, the Faculty has ambitions to provide teaching closely connected to research. Applicants are asked to document their experience and qualifications in teaching and education and the development of academic courses.

The applicant must be proficient in English.

The basis for assessment will be the scholarly production of the applicant, other qualifications, pedagogical or educational, the applicant’s qualifications within leadership and administration as well as the general personal suitability. In ranking the competent applicants, the full range of qualifications will be considered and explicitly assessed.
