Researcher position in Steady State Porous Media Flow

Deadline: 30.05.2019

Job description

Universitetet i Oslo

The University of Oslo is Norway’s oldest and highest rated institution of research and education with 28 000 students and 7000 employees. Its broad range of academic disciplines and internationally esteemed research communities make UiO an important contributor to society.

PoreLab is a Norwegian Center of Excellence created in 2017 and situated at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, and the University of Oslo (UiO). It focuses on the physics of porous media using experimental, theoretical and computational methods. It is led by five principal scientists from physics, chemistry and reservoir engineering.

Position as researcher in Porous Media Physics is available at PoreLab – Center of Excellence - at the Department of Physics.

The position is for a period of two years, with starting date as soon as possible.

The theme of the researcher position will be “Experimental characterization of steady-state properties of flow in porous media”. The aim of the researcher project is to investigate the different phases obtained in steady state two-phase flow in porous media. The experiments will be performed with quasi two-dimensional models with and without a gravitational field. In steady-state two-phase flow, the systems can either present a rich dynamics of fragmentation, motion and coalescence of single-phase fluid clusters, or have nearly frozen and immobile clusters. We will explore the transition between those opposing steady-state regimes by carefully tuning a set of experimental parameters governing the dynamics.

The position is an excellent possibility for a young scientist to qualify for a tenured academic position. It is expected that the candidate actively pursues possibilities for new projects within the field, by participating/submitting applications to the EU, the Research Council of Norway and industry. The candidate will take part in supervision of students and also outreach activity connected to PoreLab.
