A Researcher position (SKO 1109) is available at the Division of Physiology, Department of Molecular Medicine, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IMB), University of Oslo. The position is affiliated with the group of Associate Professor Koen Vervaeke. The project is funded by the Research Council of Norway. Description of the project and the job:

We are searching for highly motivated candidates with a strong interest in computational statistics and cortical circuits. We aim at developing statistical models to determine cortical circuit functions in fully awake behaving animals based on data obtained from optical and electrophysiological methods. The position is funded by the Norwegian Research Council to study the role of specific neuron types in the cortex.

Qualification requirements

We seek candidates with a strong background in computational statistics, machine learning in particular, and computational neuroscience. The candidate should be creative, critical and organized in analyzing data. The candidate should have a proven track record of publications in high impact journals. Being fluent in Matlab is essential.

Applicants must hold a PhD in computational statistics or machine learning and should be familiar with methods for mining large-scale Neuroscience data. The candidate should be able to work independently and structured, while at the same time engage in close collaborations. Emphasis will be attributed to team-working abilities and personal skills.

In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the relevance of the candidate’s background.

A good command of English is required.
