Ledig stilling ved NMBU
Researcher / postdoc position within the area nutrition and health in salmon and other domestic animals – omics technologies and bioinformatics
Deadline: 08.09.2019
About the position
The Department of Basic Sciences and Aquatic Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has a vacant 2 year researcher–position related to Nutrition.
The research group Nutrition and health of domestic animals, under Department of Basic Sciences and Aquatic Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) has a vacant 2-year researcher/ postdoc position. The duration of the position may be extended depending on availability of grants. The group is involved in several projects addressing research questions such as possible beneficial and detrimental health effects of new feed ingredients for salmon and other domesticated animals. Among the ingredients under investigation are insects, seaweed, new varieties of soybeans and functional ingredients. The research is funded by public as well as private research grants.
The group has a substantial professional network within the aquacultural community, and most research projects involve collaboration with the aquaculture industry, both feed and fish producers. For all projects effects on gut health is a main focus, and the work involves feeding experiments with various animal species, first of all Atlantic salmon, but zebrafish, mink and chickens are also used.
In vitro model systems of the fish gut are also used to address mechanistic effects of feed components and additives. Our analytical tools range from classical biochemical and physiological to the most modern molecular tools, including histopathological and other clinical methods as well as tools for characterization of microbiota. The group has several highly skilled co-workers who share the project work according to expertise and timing of milestones of the projects. We are now seeking an outstanding candidate with a background in omics technologies and bioinformatics to join our team.
Main tasks
The research will be connected to several ongoing research projects, all of which address relationship between feed composition, gut function and health in salmon and zebrafish.
