There is a vacancy for a Researcher position at the Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology (SLATE), Faculty of Psychology, within Learning Analytics in the Erasmus+ project Remote Intelligent Access to Labs in Higher Education (RIALHE). The temporary position with 100% from April 2023 – April 2025.
The Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology (SLATE), located at the Faculty of Psychology, is a learning sciences research centre that carries out interdisciplinary research on the use of data and data analytic approaches (learning analytics) to understand learning, teaching, and creative knowledge processes across the full learning lifespan. We are a dynamic and including milieu of around 24 persons, including faculty, researchers, adjuncts, postdocs, PhDs candidates, and support staff. All employees are expected to contribute to the success of the Centre.
About the project/work tasks:
The person appointed will work in close collaboration with the project coordinator of the RIALHE Erasmus+ although work on other projects is possible if time permits. RIALHE gives student’s remote access to state-of-the-art real lab experiments and scientist expertise in the context of inter-connected higher education systems. RIALHE promotes student active learning by giving the possibility to relive the experimentation and participate in a learning community to support the development of a deeper understanding of the experiments, supported through learning analytics. The workplace is in Bergen, Norway.
The successful candidate will:
participate in the co-design, testing, and evaluation of a learning analytics dashboard for remote labs in the RIALHE
prepare a set of guidelines and recommendations for the use of learning analytics in remote laboratories, including which data types are best collected, analysed, and reported
participating in evaluating lab activity designs to identify challenges and weaknesses via learning analytics monitoring of student activity and performance
assist the project leader to fulfil communication (including RIALHE website) and management tasks
contributes to the Centre ́s dissemination, information work, and community contact
work to help SLATE meet its broad national mandate through collaboration on the projects and initiatives
Qualifications and personal qualities:
Excellent PhD in learning analytics or data science; a focus on peer assessment or peer collaboration is an advantage
R&D experience in data analysis with particular focus in education, such as regression analysis, epistemic network analysis, clustering, data models exploration and validation
Good skills in R programming and data analysis
Experience in dashboard design and development is an advantage
Ability to work independently, strong personal commitment, teamwork & cooperation skills, administrative skills, creativity, determination
Proficiency in written and oral English is required
Last but not least, enthusiasm about, high commitment for, and enjoyment in research
