The position

UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Faculty of Science and Technology, has a researcher position vacant at the Department of Chemistry. The position is for 2 years, with the posibility for extension by 1 year. The position is affiliated with the research group CHOCO and is expected to commence as soon as possible.

The appointed Researcher must have its daily workplace at UiT - The Arctic University of Norway, Tromsø.

The position's field of research

The researcher will use quantum chemical methods (standard density functional theory and ab initio molecular dynamics) to model molecules and reactions and to propose promising new molecules for activation of CO2, especially towards enantioselective carbon-carbon bond formation. The work will be performed in close collaboration with experimental organic chemists. The researcher will be located at the Dept. of Chemistry and will become a member of an enthusiastic interdisciplinary research team, which combines computational and organic chemistry tools in the development of novel catalysts (group website).

The candidate can expect to be involved in the supervision of Master and PhD students in the group and may participate in teaching at the Department of Chemistry.

Qualifications

For appointment as researcher 1109, the applicant is required to hold either a Norwegian PhD or an equivalent foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree.

  • Candidates must have a PhD degree in theoretical or computational chemistry or equivalent.
  • Candidates must be able to document experience with ab initio molecular dynamics applied to chemical reactions. This may be in the form of a relevant PhD thesis or relevant publications.
  • Candidates must possess experience with quantum chemical modelling of metal-catalyzed reactions.
  • Experience with enantioselective systems is beneficial.
  • In-depth knowledge about organometallic chemistry is an advantage.
  • The successful candidate must have well-developed critical thinking and writing skills.
  • The ability to work independently and the motivation to solve challenging chemical problems is essential.
  • Teaching and/or supervision experience is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in both written and oral English is necessary.

Qualification with a PhD is required before commencement in the position. If you’re at the final stages of your PhD, you may still apply if you have submitted your PhD thesis for doctoral degree evaluation within the application deadline. You must submit the thesis with your application. You must have dissertated before the start-up date of the position.

During the assessment emphasis will be put on the candidates motivation, potential for research, and personal suitability for the position.

The working hours shall be utilised for research, research-related activities, and research administration.

The successful applicant must be willing to engage himself/herself in the ongoing development of his/her discipline and the university as a whole.

The remuneration for researcher is in accordance with the State salary scale code 1109. A compulsory contribution of 2 % to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted.
