SINTEF Industry, department of Sustainable Energy Technology, is seeking Research Scientist – computational materials science

The research group Thin Film and Membrane Technology, a part of the department of Sustainable Energy Technology, works on developing advanced materials and components, and improving solutions for sustainable energy technologies. We have a substantial portfolio of national and international research and innovation projects within areas such as high temperature fuel cells, electrolysers, electrochemical membrane reactors, inorganic membranes for H², O² and CO² gas separation, electroceramics for MEMS and sensors, solid state batteries and oxide-based thermoelectrics. The research group has currently a staff of 20 research scientists.

We seek creative and scientifically skilled candidates at a MSc or PhD level to strengthen our computational research activity on ceramic and metal materials. Additional experimental research experience is regarded as an advantage.

Responsibilities

As a Research Scientist, you will be working in interdisciplinary teams on several projects with partners in Norway and/or abroad. Our project portfolio encompasses national research projects, EU projects and direct projects with industry. Depending on your qualifications and level of experience, you will be expected to contribute to project development, work closely with industry and research partners and manage research projects.

Qualifications

You should enjoy working in project teams with ambitious goals and sometimes tight deadlines. Furthermore, you are customer- and solution oriented, work systematically and do not hesitate to suggest your ideas and take own initiatives. You should have excellent computational and analytical skills and be able to work independently when required. Good oral and written communication skills are necessary.

The candidate should have experience within several of the following areas:

  • MSc or PhD in materials science (preferably inorganic materials), solid state chemistry, solid state physics or related disciplines
  • Computational materials science using atomistic and similar modelling tools
  • Thermodynamic, kinetic and electrochemical modelling
  • Planning, design and execution of lab experiments, analysis/treatment of large datasets.
  • Safe operation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment,
  • Building and maintain scientific and/or customer networks
  • Writing research proposals
