A 50% 3-year position as researcher with a PhD degree (SKO 1109) in translational endocrinology/biochemistry is available in the Department of Medical Biochemistry, Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo.

More about the position

The candidate will work with molecular characterization of pituitary neuroendocrine tumors focusing on the paradox that some tumors present hormones without secretion.

The project is located in the research group of Professor Jens Petter Berg in collaboration with the Research Group for Specialized Endocrinology, both referring to Klinmed, UiO. The two groups have successfully worked together for more than 10 years aiming at characterizing functioning and non-functioning pituitary adenomas, often linked to the importance of pituitary hormones for a general insulin resistance. A central aspect has been to develop an understanding of Epithelial to Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) as a biomarker for aggressiveness of the pituitary tumor and potential sensitivity for current and future treatment.

The successful candidate will join a highly integrated and motivated team with diverse skills and expertise across translational endocrinology. We seek a motivated, creative and energetic candidate that is expected to take active part in the research cooperation within the project.

This particular project relates to studies of

1) Studying mechanisms behind “Silent, Whispering and Secreting” corticotroph and somatotroph pituitary adenomas

2) The importance of excess growth hormone in adipose tissue for hepatic insulin resistance.
