The Department of Pharmacy has 130 employees. We have an active research and innovation environment based on independent research in pharmaceutical topics. The Department of Pharmacy is responsible for the popular master's degree program in pharmacy and has 350 competent and committed students.


Pharmaceutical related research and education forms the base of all activities at the Department of Pharmacy. The science of pharmacy lies in the interface between the natural sciences, pharmaceutical technology, health related topics and social sciences. This interdisciplinarity is reflected both in our study programmes and in our research.

Position as Researcher available at the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The position is for a period of 1,5 years. Starting date March 2020.

Job description / Project description

The candidate will be working on the ERC Starting Grant project “Effects of Medication Use in Pregnancy on Infant Neurodevelopment” (DrugsInPregnancy) .The background for the project is the lack of knowledge about long term safety of prenatal exposure to medication. The aim of the project is to use causal inference methods to study associations between medication use during pregnancy and possible long-term neurodevelopment disorders in childhood. The epidemiological data consists of data from the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort (MoBa) at the National Institute of Public Health linked to other national health registries.

The candidate will be included in the EU funded IMI ConcePTION project aiming to build a better system for studies of medication safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding in Europe.

The candidate will become part of the PharmacoEpidemiology and Drug Safety Research Group headed by Professor Nordeng at the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo. The project will be performed in close collaboration with international partners and partners at the National Institute of Public Health.

The candidate will also be included in the PharmaTox Strategic Research Initiative at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo.PharmaTox is a multidisciplinary center comprising strong research environments in pharmaceutical bioscience, biology, bioinformatics and statistics. Qualification requirements

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these positions will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

  • Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in epidemiology. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Only applicants with an approved doctoral thesis and public defense are eligible for appointment.
  • The successful candidate must prove high competence in epidemiology, biostatistics and good knowledge of statistical programs (e.g. STATA, R, SAS).
  • The preferred candidate possesses has extensive experience with pharmacoepidemiology and handling large data sets.
  • Interest and experience with interdisciplinary work is an advantage
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
