The University of Bergen is a renowned educational and research institution, organised into seven faculties and approximately 54 institutes and academic centres. Campus is located in the centre of Bergen with university areas at Nygårdshøyden, Haukeland, Marineholmen, Møllendalsveien and Årstad.

There is a vacancy for a part-time (20%) temporary researcher position at the Centre for the Study of the Sciences and the Humanities. The researcher position will be associated with the Horizon 2020-funded project “Moving Towards Adaptive Governance in Complexity: Informing Nexus Security” (MAGIC), see http://magic-nexus.eu/ . MAGIC aims to improve the knowledge base for the governance of and in the water-energy-soil-climate nexus by interdisciplinary integration of the Multi-Scale Integrated Analysis of Societal and Ecosystem Metabolism (MuSIASEM) method with science and technology studies (STS) and policy studies, within the theoretical framework of post-normal science.The position is for a period of one year, 1 June 2019-31 May 2020.

About the project/work tasks:

The researcher is expected to take part in all research tasks pertaining to the University of Bergen in the MAGIC project. In particular, the researcher will work on our major task in MAGIC, a comparative study of the role of technological innovations in the governance of the nexus. Other tasks include nexus policy studies and the development and maintenance of an interface for science-policy dialogue between the project and European stakeholders. The tasks will involve day-to-day collaboration with other researchers at the University of Bergen but also the project coordinator at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and other partners.

Qualifications and personal qualities:

In order to be considered for the position the applicant should comply with the following criteria:

  • The applicant must hold a Norwegian PhD degree or equivalent within science and technology studies (STS) or an adjacent academic field within the social sciences.
  • The applicant must have solid research experience with science and technology studies and post-normal science approaches, preferably on issues on the science-policy interface. Research experience with nexus governance and EU institutions is an advantage.
  • Solid mastery of the English language (written and spoken)

  • Salary at pay grade 64 (code 1109/pay range 24) on the government salary scale upon appointment (equivalent to NOK 113 020,- per year for this 20% position before taxes). Higher salary may be considered for exceptionally well qualified candidates.
