At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Biomedicine, a full-time position as a researcher is available for one (1) year The position is part of the project «Understanding the molecular mechanism of Plasmodium actin-based gliding motility» financed by the Norwegian Research Council.

About the Department/Project

The research group is working on understanding the molecular mechanisms behind the actomyosin-based gliding motility of the malaria parasite.

Research position

This project focuses on molecular structural biology and imaging approaches for understanding the structure and function of the actin-myosin motor of the malaria parasite.

Qualifications and qualities

  • The candidate must hold a PhD degree in biophysics, biochemistry, or a related discipline
  • The successful applicant must have experience in (i) protein biochemistry, in particular expression and purification of recombinant proteins from baculovirus-infected insect cells and characterization of protein complexes, (ii) using fluorescence microscopy for characterization of motor protein function in vitro, and (iii) 3D protein structure determination using X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM
  • The applicant must be experienced in supervision of students and have a successful track record in writing manuscripts for publication and grant applications
  • The candidate should be able to work independently and interactively in a team setting, be motivated and responsible, and also have a high work capacity and enthusiasm for research.
  • Experience in carrying out work within international collaborations is an advantage
  • The candidate must be fluent in written and oral English. Basic skills in written and oral Norwegian are an advantage

  • Starting salary will be found at level 59 - 62 (code 1109/salary scale 24.3 – 24.6), currently NOK 515 200 – 544 400 gross p.a. for a fulltime position; following ordinary meriting regulations. A pension contribution of 2 % will be deducted and deposited to the state pension scheme
