The Faculty of Biosciences, Fisheries and Economics
(BFE) consists of Department of Arctic and Marine Biology, Norwegian College of Fishery Science (NFH) and School of Business and Economics. The main task of BFE is to conduct teaching and research dissemination at a high national and international level within all relevant fields. Prioritized research areas are aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, climate, life in the arctic, marine bioprospecting, fish health, seafood products, business and macroeconomics, resources and environment, markets and management of marine resources. The interdisciplinary profile of the faculty provides good opportunity to develop research projects involving several research groups at the faculty according to its strategy.

The position

The Faculty of Biosciences, Fisheries and Economics (BFE), UiT The Arctic University of Norway has a position vacant as Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer or Assistant Professor in Business with the possibility of an interim appointment. The position is attached to School of Business and Economics at UiT in Alta.

The positions field of research/field of work

The position involves research, academic development and teaching on bachelor and master program in business and administration. For the Lecturer, teaching in the field will be at bachelor level. For the Assosiate Professor and Senior Lecturer the work will alternatively include teaching and supervision at the master's level and possibly PhD level.

The research area is within the field Business, for instance Management Science. The School of Business and Economics has several research groups with activity across the campuses and the successful applicant will therefore be part of a larger research community.

Qualification requirements

  • For appointment as Associate Professor, the minimum requirement is a Norwegian doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification within the field Business.
  • For appointment as Senior Lecturer, the requirement is documented extensive research and development work corresponding in quality and scope to the workload and level of a doctoral thesis within the specified field.
  • For appointment as Lecturer the requirement is a Master of Science in accounting or the equivalent from a university or a university college, relevant research qualifications above the level of a second (Master’s) degree and/or relevant professional practice within the specified field.

Due to teaching obligations, applicants must have a good command of Norwegian, both written and verbal. Proficiency in other Scandinavian languages can also be taken into account.

The applicants must document teaching qualifications by submitting a teaching portfolio.

Interim appointment

If there are applicants who do not fulfil the requirements related to teaching qualifications, a temporary appointment for a period of no more than three years may be made. The applicant must have their teaching qualifications approved through developing a teaching portfolio before the three-year period elapses. The appointment will become permanent if the applicant is found to be suitably qualified.

  • list of works and description of these

The list of works shall contain the following information:

  • author(s), the work’s title
  • for articles: the journal’s name and volume, the first and last page of the article, year of publication
  • for publications: publisher, printer, year of publication, number of pages

Works - The applicants have to attach the published or unpublished work he/she wish the Committee be take into consideration during the assessment process.

In addition, the applicants shall provide a description of his/her scientific production stating which works he/she considers the most important and shall therefore be the main emphasis of the assessment. A brief description of the other listed works shall also be included to demonstrate depth of production.

These descriptions shall be an attachment to the application.

The application documents must be enclosed within the expiration of the application deadline.

Assessment

An expert committee will assess the applicants. Documents to be considered must be certified and translated into Scandinavian or English.

The applicants who assessed as the best qualified, will be called to an interview. The interview shall among other things aim to clarify the applicant’s personal suitability for the position. A trial lecture may also been held.

Working conditions

At UiT The Arctic University of Norway the allocation of working hours shall be flexible and allocated on a case by case basis.

As a general principle:

  • Associate Professor shall spend an equal amount of time on teaching and research and development work.
  • A Senior Lecturer 30 % of his/her time on research and development work and 70 % on teaching.
  • Assistant Professor 20 % of his/her time on research and development and 80 % on teaching, after time spent on other duties has been deducted.

As a norm the time resources spent on administrative duties constitutes 5 % for academic staff.

Moreover, applicants shall refer to the Guidelines for allocation of working hours in teaching and research positions.

Employees in permanent positions as Associate Professor have the right to apply for a paid sabbatical (research and development), cf. Guidelines for the allocation of R&D sabbatical.

The successful applicant must be willing to engage himself/herself in the ongoing development of his/her discipline and the university as a whole.

The candidate will have his/her place of work at the School of Business and Economics in Alta. Teaching and supervision at UiT’s other campuses may be required.

The remuneration for an Associate Professor is in accordance with the State salary scale code 1011, Senior Lecturer (førstelektor) in accordance with the State salary scale code 1198 and Lecturer (universitetslektor) in accordance with the State salary scale code 1009. A compulsory contribution of 2 % to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted.
