About the position

The Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences has a vacant permanent fulltime position as Professor/Associate professor in Cyber Security.

The position is at the Department of Science and Industry systems and reports to the Head of Department. The place of employment is Campus Kongsberg.

University of South-Eastern Norway has about 18 000 students and about 1500 employees. The university is organized in four faculties, with instruction and R&D activities on eight campuses.

The Department of Science and Industry systems runs multiple taught programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as research programs at prostgraduate level. The department has extensive cooperation with local high tech industries.

Responsibilities and duties

The successful applicant is expected to be actively engaged with research and teaching in the Cyber Security subject area, and delveoping their role in national and international networks. They will be expected to be actively undertaking research in their subject area, and to contribute to research leadership and guidance in strategic areas of the University's network of researchers.

The successful applicant will be assigned teaching at all levels in the Department's programs, and they may also be assigned teaching at other departments within the University of South-Eastern Norway.

The university considers distance learning and e-learning to be a priority area, and the successful candidate must be able to supervise and teach students using online tools and digital media.

Qualifications

The applicants for the position must have a PhD-degree (or equivalent) in Computer science or a closely related subject, and must demonstrate research activity within Cyber Security. The applicants must also have expertise in Object Oriented Software Development, preferably with the focus on Software development with at focus on Cyber Security.

Our education should be research-based, both in terms of teaching practice and content. We therefore want our teachers to have experience from, or have the motivation to focus on, the development of teaching practices and the interaction between education and research.

Applicants should possess pedagogical competence involving at least a half-year Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, or a shorter university college pedagogy course, and a minimum of one year’s teaching experience. Applicants who do not possess such pedagogical qualifications may be employed on the condition that they acquire such qualifications within three years of the date of their employment. Courses within university pedagogy will be offered.

Co-operation between staff members is an integrated part of the working atmosphere at the University of South-Eastern Norway. The candidate must be motivated and demonstrate a proven ability to work effectively within a team and in a collegiate manner to formulate and realise common objectives.

Personal suitability for the position will be emphasized.

To be appointed as an associate professor (førsteamanuensis), applicants must hold a Norwegian doctorate within the relevant field, or an equivalent foreign doctoral degree approved as equivalent to a Norwegian doctorate;, or qualifications at the same level documented by research production of equivalent scope and quality.

In addition, for appointment as professor, an acedemic level in accordance with established international or national standards is required.

The successful applicant should have a broad and solid background and research expertise in Cyber Security. He/she must be able to demonstrate expertise in one or more areas of research.

Applicants must be capable of fluent communication in both oral and written English. Applicants who can teach and supervise in a Scandinavian language (Norwegain, Swedish or Danish) will be preferred. A successful applicant who, by the agreed date of commencement, cannot document capability in on of the Scandinavian languages is required to demonstrate and prove their capability with a pass at level B2 within three (3) years of employment.

Salary

Professor (code 1013): NOK 667 200 – 934 800 a year. Associate professor (førsteamanuensis) (code 1011): 542 400 – 741 300 a year. Salary placement depending on seniority. In special cases, higher salary may be considered. A statutory contribution will be made from the employee’s salary to the state pension plan.

Additional information

The Academic Appointments Board is responsible for appointments to academic positions at University of South-Eastern Norway. An expert committee will evaluate the applications. On the basis of the committee’s recommendations, short-listed applicants will be called in for interviews and must be prepared to give a practice lecture.
