The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences overall objective is to promote basic medical knowledge in order to understand normal processes, provide insight into mechanisms that cause illness, and promote good health. The Institute is responsible for teaching in basic medical sciences for the programmes of professional study in medicine and the Master's programme in clinical nutrition. A permanent position (80% position) as laboratory engineer (principal engineer / head engineer - avdelingsingeniør / overingeniør in Norwegian) is available at the Division of Biochemistry, Department of Molecular Medicine, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo. The position is affiliated with Prof. Sandip Kanse’s research group and will involve working on projects related to the diagnosis and treatment of thrombosis, stroke and myocardial infarction. The position is in one of Norway’s top-rated, international research and teaching institutions equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

Work tasks

The engineer will perform experiments relating to cell culture, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, protein biochemistry, enzymology, Western blotting, chromatography, co-immunoprecipitation, cloning, site directed mutagenesis and qPCR. These experiments will depend on the evolving requirements of the group. The position also involves managing a modern research laboratory and ad hoc tasks such as ordering, cataloging materials and other organizational matters relating to health and safety. Teaching methods to other laboratory members and helping with the practical aspects of organizing student courses is also expected.

Qualification requirements

  • Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, or a master’s degree or equivalent, in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or related subjects
  • Candidates with experience in cell culture, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, protein biochemistry, enzymology, Western blotting, chromatography, co-immunoprecipitation, cloning, site directed mutagenesis and qPCR will be strongly preferred.
  • The candidate must have fluent oral and written communication skills in English.

  • Salary NOK 420 700 – 496 100 per annum depending on qualifications in position as Principal Engineer (position code 1085), 488 000 – 573 100 per annum depending on qualifications in position as Head Engineer (position code 1087)
