A 2-year full time position as principal engineer (position code 1085) in antibody biology and design is available in the Laboratory of Adaptive Immunity and Homeostasis, Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo.

The position is part of an international project that is funded by the Research Council of Norway and the Programme on Global Health and Vaccination Research. The candidate will be part of the research group of Associate Professor Jan Terje Andersen, who is the head of the Laboratory of Adaptive Immunity and Homeostasis at Department of Immunology and Department of Pharmacology, Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine.

The laboratory is currently part of UiO FOCIS Centre of Excellence, which aims to develop and support research activities on clinical immunology in Oslo. The Center has a Visiting Professor Program and a Guest Lecturer Program:

The research project aims to combine global innovative technologies to develop safe, effective, and affordable HIV prevention products for use among adolescent girls and young women in sub-Saharan Africa. The project team includes leading HIV investigators at the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) in the US and with the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) in India.

The vacant position relates to studies of antibody biology and engineering combined with administrative tasks, and will provide a unique opportunity to be part of a project that bridges basic research combined with development of innovative approaches. In addition, the candidate will take part of administrative coordination of an international project.

The successful candidate will join a highly integrated and motivated team with diverse skills and expertise across molecular biology and immunology. We seek a highly structured candidate that is expected to take active part in the research and administrative work related to the project.

Main tasks

  • Technical support in lab activities, with special focus on preparation of DNA and buffers.
  • Execution of molecular and cell biology experiments such as cultering and transfection of different cell lines and performing binding assays (ELISA)
  • Production and purification of recombinant proteins
  • Writing of research and annual reports and other documents related to the research conducted together with the international partners
  • Co-ordination of lab acquisitions

Qualification requirements and skills

  • A bachelor degree or equivalent with specialization in molecular and cellular biology
  • Experience with cell culturing
  • Experience in recombinant production and purification
  • Experience with molecular and cell biology techniques such as ELISA is an advantage
  • Good communication, social and collaboration skills
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Administrative experience is an advantage
