About the position

A fixed-term 100 % position as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in ICT is available for a period of 2 years at the University of Agder, Faculty of Engineering and Science. The position is affiliated to the Department of ICT and located at Campus Grimstad in the South of Norway. The starting date is as soon as possible or to be negotiated with the Faculty.

The Department of ICT has several large and active research groups in Information and Communication Technology including 12 Professors, 15 Associate Professors, 10 Assistant Professors and about 15 Research Fellows on the PhD programme in ICT. The department pursues a variety of research interests, focusing especially on Wireless Communications and Embedded Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Crisis Management, eLearning and eHealth. The department has successfully led a number of large research projects funded by the Research Council of Norway; the EU research programmes FP7 and H2020, as well as national and international industries.

Responsibilities

This open position is intended to carry out research in the area of propagation and mobile radio channel modelling with applications in human activity recognition. Potential research topics include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Developing a mathematical framework for the characterization of non-stationary massive MIMO radio channels;
  • Time-frequency analysis of non-stationary massive MIMO channels;
  • Modelling, analysis, and simulation of mobile radio channels for human activity recognition;
  • Measurement, analysis, and modelling of mobile radio channels in the presence of multiple active persons

Required qualifications

Provisions relating to the positions as Post-doctoral Research Fellows can be found in the Regulations Concerning Terms and Conditions of Employment for the post of Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Research Fellow, Research Assistant and Resident.

To be considered for the position, applicants must have:

  • Master and PhD in ICT, Electrical Engineering or a similar/related field and document expertise in areas relevant to the position. It is desirable that the applicants have defended their doctoral thesis within the last four years. To be considered for the position, applicants must have an approved PhD dissertation by the application deadline.
  • Strong academic credentials, written and spoken English proficiency;
  • Excellent knowledge in mathematics, especially in stochastic processes, analysis, and linear algebra;
  • Excellent knowledge in propagation and mobile radio channel modelling;
  • Profound knowledge in mobile radio communications and signal processing;
  • Strong programming skills and years of experience in using mathematical and numerical tools such as MATLAB.

The applicants must have strong academic credentials. Participation in ongoing projects, as well as initiating independent research projects and collaboration on external research funding applications is expected.

The working language is English. The successful applicant must have a high level of oral and written proficiency in English.

Personal suitability, good teamwork skills, inventiveness, and a proactive approach, will be emphasized in the evaluation as well as relevant practical experience. The postdoctoral research fellow will be expected to contribute to an active research community that promotes the personal and professional growth of the doctoral candidates. The position places great demands on the applicant’s capacity for independent goal-oriented work, ability to concentrate and attention to detail.

The position is remunerated according to the State Salary Scale, salary plan 17.510, code 1352, NOK 524 200-565 500 gross salary per year. Higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
