About the position
The Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) calls for applications for a temporary four-year II position as Professor II/ Associated Professor II connected to the AHO PhD Programme.
The Professor II/ Associated Professor II position will be employed at the Institute of Form, Theory and History, but will work across the school and interact with all faculty who are involved in the PhD programme.
The position is responsible for the development of the existing AHO PhD course “Apparatus” which provides 15 ECTS within the programme. The applicant’s main responsibility will be:
- To develop and revise the existing course design in discussion with the Head of Programme and the AHO PhD Board
- To deliver 15 ECTS of teaching within the programme according to that development.
Academic responsibilities that can be associated with the position:
- PhD level teaching that brings PhD fellows who lack any Masters level training in academic writing to a level of skill such that they are able to use academic writing as a key method in research development and dissemination.
- PhD level teaching that provides a basic understanding for all PhD fellows of the mechanics of academic publishing and dissemination, and an ability to engage with the evolving formats of academic publishing production
- PhD level teaching that provides a grounding in general research design applicable to all the research areas across AHO.
- Supervising or co-supervising students in the PhD Programme
- Contributing to development of the AHO PhD Programme and common research arenas across the school.
About the program
The AHO PhD Programme has existed since 1992. It serves the research cultures across AHO’s four institutes and is led by a head of the Programme employed at FTH. At the present time the Programme has 55 PhD fellows enrolled, and takes in between four and eight fellows per year. The programme curates 30 ECTS compulsory courses which support PhD fellows in meeting PhD level learning outcomes regarding research dissemination, project related skills and methods and project organization.
The programme supports academic PhDs across three main research areas (design; landscape and urbanism; architecture, history and theory). The programme takes in fellows from a wide variety of backgrounds, including applicants whose training is primarily in design practice. The programme produces theses that always contain an academic written component.
Regardless of their background and chosen research area, AHO PhD fellows pursue PhD theses that include a writing as a major part of the development and dissemination of their research results.
Qualification Requirements
The competent candidate for this position must have:
- Completed a PhD in humanities, social science or in fields relevant for this call
- Experience from teaching or supervising students on PhD level related to academic writing and academic publishing.
- Experience from working in a transdisciplinary environment
- Good pedagogic skills and relevant experience.
- Excellent written and spoken English is required.
Applicants with a background in any of AHO’s research disciplines may apply, as well as applicants with a background in PhD level/3rd cycle teaching relating to academic writing and academic publishing.
The position does not expressly require residency in the Oslo region, however it does not include travelling expenses for applications resident outside that region.

- Copies of course materials from 3rd cycle or PhD courses taught in areas relevant to the position

- A list of all peer reviewed publications
- An updated CV
