About the position

A 100 % position is available at the University of Agder, Faculty of Engineering and Science as a PhD Research Fellow in ‘’eHealth’’, affiliated to the Department of Information and Communication Technology, for a period of three years. The position is located, at the present, at Campus Grimstad. The starting date is negotiable with the Faculty.

This position is related to the Centre for eHealth, whose vision is to do human-centered research close to healthcare practises and the design and development of technologies and healthcare solutions with high quality. The project will be carried within a multi-disciplinary research team with several PhD-students addressing the the current strong e-health trend of increased availability and utilization of "Person Healthcare Data" from the perspectives of the different research disciplines.

Responsibilities

The research should focus on enhanced telehealth and telecare services, which allow video consultations of patients in physically distant location from the care providers (which can be relatives, nurses, general practitioners, healthcare specialists, etc.). The service solution should support the integration of various types of "patient generated data" in real-time in the video consultation, and should allow the involvement of a team of multiple distributed care providers.

The design research should consider in particular:

  • The collection, transmission, provision and integration of "patient generated data", including for example physiological health data measured with sensor devices, digital images, video sequences, questionnaire responses etc. from the point of care
  • The specific support needs of different patient groups, and potentially patients with multiple morbidities
  • Automatic decision support mechanisms for the patient and the different involved healthcare service providers
  • Augmentation technologies to integrate the patient generated data efficiently in real-time in the consultation session
  • Usability, accessibility and usefulness of the human-computer interaction, including the design and evaluation of user-centred designed user interface/s
  • Security and privacy protection of the patients' personal data, under the consideration of the collaboration of healthcare teams of multiple experts in the online consultation

Furthermore, the individual usability needs and preferences of all participants in the video consultation have to be considered, by following a human-centered design approach. Here the multi-disciplinary organization of the eHealth Center at UiA shall be utilized for the design, development, test and evaluation of the target solution.

Required qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant area of study, such as computer science, information and communication technology, health informatics based on a bachelor in computer science, information and computer technology, or similar. Applicants who are in the process of finishing their master’s thesis are also welcome to apply for this position.

A prerequisite for employment is that the candidate is to be admitted to UiA’s PhD programme at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, spesialisation in Information and Communication Technology.

The position is remunerated according to the State Salary Scale, salary plan 17.515, code 1017 PhD Research Fellow, NOK 479 600 gross salary per year. A compulsory pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the pay according to current statutory provisions.
