IRIS Environment is an international and multidisciplinary research environment seeking innovative solutions to complex challenges using our state-of-the-art experimental and analytical facilities. Our researchers work closely with industry and institutional partners on scientific and technical questions, integrating our competence within marine ecology, ecotoxicology, environmental risk assessment, operational monitoring, applied microbiology and biotechnology. Our combined competence enables us to tackle environmental issues from many angles, following a gene-to-ecosystem approach, with the objective of reducing industrial footprint on the environment.
The person taking on this position will be integrated into the R&D team at IRIS. He/she will be a part of the Marine Environmental group, taking part in research activities conducted in IRIS Environment . A large emphasis is put on the ability to work within a team to conduct excellent research while being able to communicate with industry, tightly following procedures and specified requirements. Being able to take on the leadership of projects will be important, as well as providing guidance, technical support and advice or training to researchers and clients. We are seeking a Research Scientist with a strong background in environmental research with a focus on water quality, both fresh water as well as sea water. We are looking for an outgoing, positive and flexible person interested in public funded as well as contract research projects to integrate into our multidisciplinary and multicultural research team constituting the Marine group at IRIS. The person must be a good team worker, with good decision making skills and the ability to communicate professionally with academics and industrial clients alike.
Job description
- Support and develop projects with a focus on water quality, including chemical control in laboratory based exposure systems, aquaculture systems (RAS, flow through) as well as natural water systems (fresh water and sea water).
- Establish new methods and further develop ongoing methods in: water quality measurement , technology and water management.
- Evaluate and manage tender requests.
Qualifications
- MSc, preferably PhD in seawater chemistry with experience/knowledge of environmental / freshwater chemistry.
- Preferably good knowledge/experience of aquaculture systems (both off shore and landbased).
- Experience in laboratory work and field work with use of standard sampling methods for sediment and water.
- Knowledge of Norwegian and EU research council funding bodies.
- Experience in project generation, planning, management and reporting.
- Strong background in analysis of research data.
- Preferably experience and network in aquaculture and other industries.
- Written and verbal communication skills in Norwegian and English.
