Job description

One position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the section for algebra, geometry and topology (Section 5) or in the section for several complex variables, logic and operator algebras (Section 6) is available at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Oslo, Norway.

The fellowship will be for a period of 3 years, with no compulsory work. Starting date no later than 01.12.2018. No one can be appointed for more than one fixed-term period at the same institution.

Job description:

The research fellow will be attached either to the section for algebra, geometry and topology (Section 5) or to the section for several complex variables, logic and operator algebras (Section 6). The fellow will perform research within one of the following areas (click on each link for information about the research groups): algebra and algebraic geometry, geometry and topology, operator algebras, several complex variables.

Qualification requirements

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. The candidate for the fellowship will be selected in accordance with this, and is expected to be in the upper segment with respect to academic credentials.

  • Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in mathematics, with background in one of the research areas mentioned above. The main purpose of a postdoctoral research fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.
  • Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defence of the doctoral thesis being approved.
  • A good command of English is required.
