Researcher position on evolution of invertebrate neuroglia

There is a vacancy for a 1 year researcher position (code 1109) at the Sars Centre www.sars.no in the research group headed by Dr. Harald Hausen. The position is on comparative characterization of invertebrate neuroglia with a focus on lophotrochozaon organisms. The position is funded by the Research Council of Norway and the University of Bergen and is available from April 2017. The Sars Centre belongs to the University of Bergen and is partner with the European Molecular Biology (EMBL) www.embl.de/.
About the project/work tasks
The research group headed by Dr. Harald Hausen is working on organ system and cell type evolution with a focus on sensory systems and nervous system organization in lophotrochozoan organisms. The project aims comparative molecular and structural characterization of neuroglia to trace evolutionary history of neuroglia elements. The experimental approaches include in-depth gene expression analysis, light and electron microscopic characterization of glia cell types in several organisms. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the further development of the project in line with his/her interests.
Qualifications and personal qualities:
- The applicant must hold a Norwegian PhD or an equivalent degree within biology or molecular biology or must have submitted his/her doctoral thesis for assessment prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded
- Experience and a strong interest in invertebrate nervous system organization, evolutionary developmental biology and basic molecular biology methods is required
- Experience with sampling, culturing and experimental studies in lophotrochozan organisms are an advantage
- Ability to work both independently and in close collaboration with others in a structured manner
- Personal communication skills to interact with the scientific environment are required
- Proficiency in both written and oral English
